:) ANOTHER STEP FORWARD FOR COMMUNITY CATS!

Late yesterday we have the privileged opportunity to meet with Minister Hoenig with a few of his policy team at Parliament House! 💜💜💜

❣️We provided the signed rally banner (thank you to all attendees who supported our cause on the day)
& achieved a brief discussion with the Minister and team.

😎The MARCH FOR CATS BANNER had to be checked by the security officers, and while it was opened one remarked that he owned FOUR CATS, AND FED 8 OTHERS!

🐈‍⬛At the informal meeting the Minister confirmed commitment to the Inquiry, and we briefly touched on the range of complexities for improvements that need to be tailored to a range of 128 councils. And with his policy team reps we only were able to touch on some of those complexities.

🐈‍⬛We appreciated the discussion which involved
✅our related experiences with independent rescuers and carers desexing community cats, rehoming organisations, animal welfare organisations,
✅that domestic cats are in a range of circumstances from high density urban areas through to rural properties, and as “working cats”,
✅even including clarifying that TNR means Return to a cat or colony.

🐈‍⬛There is still much to be resolved – this is OUR OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE MORE DISCUSSIONS WITH OUR POLLIES AT THE STATE AND LOCAL COUNCIL LEVEL TOO, & THAT INCLUDES YOU TOO BEING INVOLVED!

😾🤬😾TRAPPING & CULLING CATS IS TRAUMATIC, COSTLY, INHUMANE FOR CATS, COMMUNITY & RESCUERS, & INEFFECTIVE FOR MANAGING CAT POPULATIONS. 😡The experts know it, we rescuers know it, then why is it still possible under the Control of Cats Bill?
😻 Watch our brief video on the main concerns which were included by domestic cat experts under the NSW cat Inquiry and related Aussie research. The Inquiry findings & recommendations include FUNDING DESEXING PROGRAMS for ALL CATS, including community cats under rescuers & carers - the most humane and effective approach to managing cat populations.

😡For over 18 months, we have been emailing our concerns with the proposed Cat Management Plan related to the Control of Cats Bill, where stray/ semi owned & unowned/ community cats etc have not been included - i.e. a major gap or flaw? All our emails have been respectful and shown a willingness to help work on that proposed approach. And we have yet to receive an appropriate response.

🙀😿🙀As cat hate appears to be increasing, and part of this is fueled by the potential of mandatory cat containment, we reflect and add to "how does this happen"? All community cat rescuers & carers need to take care: REPORT TO POLICE IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY ONLINE OR PHYSICAL INCIDENTS OF HARM, HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION.

😡 Firstly, it has been recognised by domestic cat experts and ourselves, that the OVERSTATED & GENERIC CAT IMPACTS TO WILDLIFE, are often used as an excuse or motivator that encourages CAT HATE TOWARDS RESCUERS & ROAMING CATS & ANIMAL CRUELTY. This was also included as evidence and views from domestic cat experts under the NSW Inquiry Management of Cat Populations from RSPCA NSW, APWF, and independent rescuers.

😳 INCREASING ANIMAL CRUELTY BY VIGILANTES WAS JUST ONE OF THE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF MANDATED CAT CONTAINMENT, and a reason for the Inquiry findings for deferring support until cultural change and adequate responses can be embedded in communities.

☹️Unfortunately, THE NEGATIVE & HARMFUL EXPERIENCES OF CAT RESCUERS & CARERS are also increasing online and physically when carrying out their efforts just to look after community cats - THE SAFETY OF PEOPLE & ANIMALS SHOULD BE A TOP PRIORITY WITH ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT.

🤬Incidents are seen online, outdoors with community cats, and now online harassment with cybercrime level of material including people taking their own lives, animal abuse and child abuse being sent to rescue group social media accounts.

❣️❣️❣️Stand with us: SUPPORT THE NSW INQUIRY MANAGEMENT OF CAT POPULATIONS,
& OBJECT TO THE GREENS CONTROL OF CATS BILL for mandatory cat containment which was not supported under the Inquiry based on scientific evidence from domestic cat experts.

:) FROM OUR ADO: How incredibly hard it is to improve the fundamental and underlying laws for ALL animals, to achieve humane animal welfare for native and introduced animals?
