Ok.. I’m going to open up a can of worms but all in the name of education…
*CRATE TRAINING*
We like crate training… there i said it, out loud!
Why are we so “cruel”…? Well, for the longest time I’ve wondered how I could show people how beneficial crate training can be for dogs and how they choose to be in there through no suggestion from me at all.
Right now, it’s nap time for our daycarers.
Our lounge-room crate is tucked away… only here as an in case we need to pop someone in while we answer the door etc.
It currently even has dog beds in front of it, big fluffy, warm dog beds. Today’s daycarers have been finding random spots around the room to get comfortable. The couch, the bed in front of the window, the mat on the other side of the room, but the one that made me want to write this post, was the dog who decided she didn’t want her nap time to be interrupted by anyone. She just forced the push-closed door open on the crate, pushing the beds aside, took herself in where there is no bed and laid down and went to sleep… hard surface, dark crate, opted in on purpose. I haven’t even suggested it. She hasn’t even been in there before. Today she chose it.
Crate training can be sooooo beneficial. For us, the biggest positive is it helps calm anxious dogs and makes them feel safe. It gives them a space they can shut off and sleep. They actually choose it!
Benefits include:
* safety - for them and others
* calming - gives anxious dogs a space to breathe
* emergencies - crates become a necessity in some emergency relocations
* moving house - it’s a known space in an unknown, new world
* puppies - doesn’t allow the opportunity to destroy things, you know where they are and generally what they are up to!
* travel - safety, known, comfortable
We love talking about all things pro best-life-ever for dogs so if you want to know more about how crate training can benefit your pup, your life and your future, we are more than happy to discuss further!
