🐾 Senior pets: what we often pick up before symptoms show

As pets get older, changes in their health don’t always show up straight away.

Many conditions develop slowly in the background, and on the outside, everything can still look completely normal.

That’s why routine senior health check-ups are so important, not because something is obviously wrong, but because we’re looking for early changes before they become more serious.

Some of the things we commonly pick up early include:
• Early kidney changes
• Thyroid disease
• Diabetes
• Liver changes
• Dental disease before it becomes painful
• Subtle weight or muscle loss

These often happen quietly long before any obvious symptoms appear at home.

This is the reason we recommend regular senior health check-ups for dogs and cats aged 7+ years.

🐾Senior Wellness Package - July Offer

As pets get older, the changes in their health are often very gradual and easy to miss in day-to-day life.

Many conditions can develop slowly in the background, without any obvious signs at first.

That’s why our Senior Wellness Package for dogs and cats aged 7+ is designed to help us detect these early changes before they become more serious.

The package includes a full physical examination with one of our vets, a comprehensive blood test (including thyroid screening), urine testing, faecal parasite testing, and a weight and dental check.

Once the results are back, we’ll sit down with you to go through everything and map out the next steps so we can continue supporting your pet’s health.

🌏 World Zoonoses Day | 6 July

Today is World Zoonoses Day, a reminder that some diseases can be passed between animals and people. While the risk from our pets is generally low with good hygiene and preventive care, staying informed helps protect both human and animal health.

With the recent detection of H5 avian influenza (bird flu) in Australia, it's especially important to take extra care around wild birds.

🦆 If you find a sick or injured wild bird:
❌ Do not handle or transport it yourself.
📞 Call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888 for advice, or contact WIRES (1300 094 737) or Sydney Wildlife (02 9413 4300).

⚠️Avian Influenza Alert: Please do not handle sick or injured wild birds🚨

With the recent avian influenza (bird flu) detections in Australia, we are no longer accepting avian wildlife cases. Please DO NOT HANDLE sick or injured wild birds unless you have obtained advice from calling one of the organisations below:

If you find a wild bird that needs help, please contact:
• Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888
• WIRES: 1300 094 737
• Sydney Wildlife: (02) 9413 4300

Avian influenza is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can spread from animals to people in some circumstances. Avoid handling sick, injured, or deceased wild birds unless adviced by a professional personnel.

Thank you for helping protect our community, our pets, and our wildlife by following current biosecurity advice. 💙
