How often should I have my pup groomed?
14-18 weeks: First “puppy groom” once they’ve had the appropriate vaccinations recommended by your groomer or vet. This is usually a gentle introduction that includes a bath, blow dry, nail trim, ear clean, face tidy if needed, and lots of positive handling.
Every 2–4 weeks until about 6 months old: Regular puppy grooms help them become comfortable with the process and prevent fear later in life.
After 6 months: Most breeds that need clipping (e.g. Cavoodles, Groodles, Moodle, Shih Tzus, Maltese, Poodles, Cocker Spaniels) should be professionally groomed every 4–8 weeks, depending on the desired coat length and how well they’re brushed at home.
Between appointments, owners/parents should:
Brush several times a week (or daily for curly coats).
Check for knots, especially behind the ears, under the collar, in the armpits, and around the tail.
Keep nails trimmed if they’re not wearing down naturally.
