Meet Tommy, now known as Tina to us. Yesterday Tommy underwent a s*x change… for a very good reason!
When some cats become stressed this can lead to inflammation and excess mucous being secreted in the urinary tract. The long, narrow urinary tract of male cats can lead to a life threatening blockage. Poor Tommy had suffered several blockages recently because of nearby construction, requiring multiple hospital stays and catheters.
It was recommended for Tommy to have a perineal urethrostomy surgery which transforms the p***s into a larger, wider opening. For Tommy’s owner, referral to a specialist was not financially feasible, which is when Tommy transferred to us. Our team is experienced in this difficult surgery and are able to offer it here at a lower price. Tommy/Tina has been doing very well in recovery and we are working on managing his stress levels at home!
