Coogee Vets first patients! Whilst construction has been going on our builders found two baby rainbow lorikeets in the ceiling. Even our builders are animal lovers, creating a makeshift nest with a hot water bottle and some bedding.

The following day a volunteer has collected the two and been hand raising them since. They’ve bonded with another rescue bird and are doing so well now! The builders have named them Hammer and Nail. Swipe to see Hammer and Nail all grown up ❤️

It’s important you meet the VIPs of Coogee Animal Hospital…our staff pets!

First up we have Peter’s sweet old lady, Summer. Next, Gwilym’s zoomie loving terrier named Rufus. Darling Betty is Hannah’s mischievous pup. Then last but not least we have Hugo Boss - the most handsome and gentle cat going around.

We are working hard behind the scenes to make sure your pet will love coming here as much as this bunch!

🐾Our treat jar is always full at reception. Please bring your pet in to say hi and grab a treat from our team. More positive associations with Coogee Vets = a better time when they need to come!
🐾Calming pheromone diffusers around the hospital to promote relaxation. As well, for our humans there are essential oil diffusers in the reception to ensure we smell more like a fresh daisy and less like a sterile hospital!
🐾 Our team are able to talk further if you think your pet may need further help in ensuring it’s a more pleasant veterinary experience

Meet Dr. Gwilym Hunt 🩺 He has a calm and friendly nature that is certain to put any clients at ease.

Gwilym is a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Surgery), bringing elite surgical expertise to our local practice. With over 30 years experience he is able to manage complex cases in house.

On the weekend you'll probably find him at the beach. He's a big fan of everything water based - from kiteboarding to scuba diving.

Meet Dr. Hannah Mitchell 🌊
Hannah brings a gentle, kind approach to treating her patients and their parents.

She has done further training in fear free handling to ensure even her anxious patients feel at ease. With special interests in surgery and behavioural medicine, she is constantly continuing her education with courses and working closely alongside specialists.

Hannah has a holistic approach to treating her patients and believes firmly in working with her pets family as a team.

You’ll no doubt find Hannah by the beach on her weekends - swimming, running or possibly getting dumped on her surfboard.

Meet Dr. Peter MacKenzie-Wood 🦴
With over three decades of experience and a background as an Adjunct Lecturer at USYD, Peter is well equipped for the most complex of cases.

Special Interests include: Advanced orthopaedics (TPLO, MPL, and TTA surgeries), ultrasonography and complex medical cases.

He is a calm, methodical communicator who ensures you feel confident in every step of your pet’s recovery.

On weekends you'll find Pete swimming in the ocean or cycling. You might even see him at the Coogee Island Ocean swim coming up soon!
