💙 🐈 It's a long read, but a good read... How amazing is this story?
It reminds us that our work sometimes touches the animals & the people that love them in ways that we cannot fully appreciate at the time and for years to come.
We recently received this email about Milky and are sharing it with permission...
Dear Gold Coast Veterinary Surgery
I wanted to express my appreciation and thank you for rescuing what had become my trusted soul-cat for the last 16+ years. Milky was rescued as an 18 month old cat by your team in 2010.
I had just moved into an apartment on the prior day when I found your email back at work with Milky’s photo looking for an owner as he was going to be put down due to being ‘too affectionate’. Luckily you kept him at your practice for two weeks and I dropped by during my lunch break the same day I saw the email and Dr Kevin introduced me to Milky. The rest is truly history as I cannot thank you enough for bringing us together.
I have attached the letter Dr Kevin kindly wrote for me to pacify the landlord as cats were not allowed where I had just moved. It made a big difference and he was truly well behaved and tolerated as the exception that he was. 😊
Sadly I had to let go of Milky this week! Old age was getting to him with Thyroid, Kidney and Arthritic pain becoming too much for my little fighter. He was of great health for most of his long life. He would have turned 18 years this November. Until the last minute he was very protective and loving towards me and I am proud of the Milky boy doing such a wonderful job lightening up people’s hearts during his life.
I hope that this message will reach you and you may remember it, although it was a long time ago. Whilst I am sure you have done plenty of wonderful work since then, I wanted to express my gratitude and appreciation for your compassion and patience to help Milky find me. I thought it may be lovely to know for you how much of a difference it made to me.
My life was certainly transformed having had Milky’s great companionship and I have so many beautiful memories to carry forward with me.
Whilst our team has changed over the years, Dr Kevin & Dr Fiona certainly do remember Milky ... although he was brought in to be euthanased for "behavioural problems" we recognised that he was a healthy young cat and rather than being a problem, it was simply the wrong fit for that owner and so instead of putting Milky down, we arranged for his owner to surrender him to us & we set about rehoming him. It wasn't easy finding the right, understanding owner, but we persevered, and how wonderful all these years later to hear how well it worked out for both Milky & his new "2nd Chance Owner". Thank you for sharing this special story with us, it made our day to know that we made a difference.
