🚨 **A little update on our ongoing internet dramas…** 🚨

Well, apparently we’ve accidentally travelled back to the 1990s. 😂📞💾

Our area is currently undergoing **NBN upgrades over the next two weeks**, which means we’re experiencing intermittent internet outages during this period.

Unfortunately, our phones are connected through the internet too, so when the internet goes down, **our phones go down with it** — meaning you may not be able to get through to us.

And because our clinic is smack bang in the middle of a **mobile phone dead zone**, we can’t exactly rely on our mobiles as a backup. 🤦‍♀️

**BUT — we are still here! ❤️🐾**

AI vs Vets: Why we’re not out of a job yet

We’re seeing more people upload pet X-rays and lab reports into AI tools asking for a diagnosis. Curiosity is understandable — but this is a good example of why that doesn’t work.

I showed this X-ray of my own dog to an AI tool and asked what was wrong with the spine.

Its confident answer:
• Diagnosed multiple “butterfly vertebrae” (L1–L3)
• Claimed these were congenital spinal malformations
• Suggested they were probably incidental

What actually happened:
• None of those findings were present
• The AI missed the real clinical pathology causing my dog’s problem
• It produced a confident explanation for abnormalities that simply weren’t there

This highlights an important issue: AI can sound very convincing — even when it’s wrong.

Veterinary diagnosis is never based on one image alone. It involves:
• The pet’s history
• A physical examination
• Multiple imaging views and correct positioning
• Laboratory results
• Clinical experience interpreting all of that together

Even trained veterinarians can’t safely diagnose from a single image without context — which is why we interpret diagnostics as part of the whole patient.

AI can be useful for explaining concepts or helping people learn. But it can’t examine your pet, assess pain, interpret the full clinical picture, or take responsibility for medical decisions.

So don’t worry — your vet isn’t being replaced anytime soon.

Meet this tiny bundle of sass and snuggles 💛

Today we had the absolute pleasure of meeting the sweetest little Chihuahua puppy — all ears, bright eyes and a personality about ten times bigger than his body!

He strutted into the clinic like he owned the place, accepted treats like royalty, and bravely sailed through his health check and vaccinations without missing a beat. Safe to say he melted every heart in the building.

Chihuahuas may be small, but they’re full of confidence, loyalty and love. With the right guidance, gentle socialisation and positive early experiences, they grow into the most devoted little companions.

Puppy Vaccination Day Done Right 🐶✨

This little legend visited us for his vaccination — and judging by that happy face, you’d never guess he had a needle!

With plenty of tasty treats, gentle handling, and lots of cuddles, he was so relaxed he didn’t even notice his vaccination. That’s exactly how we like it.

Positive early experiences at the vet help build confident, happy dogs for life. Preventative care doesn’t have to be stressful — it can be tail-waggingly good.

We’re Open – As Always 🐾

We’ve heard a little chatter in the local Facebook groups that we might be closed or undergoing renovations — so we just wanted to pop in and reassure everyone:

✨ Sunshine Veterinary Clinic is OPEN and operating as usual. ✨

We were closed for one day yesterday for staff training (because ongoing education is part of how we maintain our high standards of care), but today we are back, doors open, and ready to care for your pets.

Yes — we are busy. And we are incredibly grateful for the trust our community places in us. While some days book out quickly, we will always do our very best to accommodate patients who need us.
