You may be aware that Avian Influenza H5N1 has been detected in Portland, Victoria.
Please do not panic.

Dr. Susan is continuing to see pet birds here at myvet as normal.

Unfortunately, in order to protect our bird clients and their feathered family members, we have made the difficult decision to no longer assess or treat injured or ill wild birds in clinic.

If you see sick wildlife - especially multiple birds or animals in one location - avoid touching, record the location, and report to the hotline: 1800 675 888

Dental Months are here! 🪥
During the months of JULY and AUGUST, we are offering a FREE scale and polish with every dental procedure. That's a saving of $189!!

A scale and polish is a vital part of performing a dental procedure. The purpose of scaling the teeth is to remove a buildup of tartar (the yellow hardened accumulation of plaque) on the teeth and under the gumline. Without removing the tartar, bacteria continue to grow and causes gingivitis (Inflammation of the
gums). Untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontal disease, leading to destruction of the tissues supporting the teeth.

If the deal isn't sweet enough, when you book in for your pets' dental procedure; we're throwing in another surprise...

Please give us a call on (03) 5439 5066 or visit https://myvetstrathfieldsaye.com.au/ to book in a consultation with one of our vets.

The veterinary industry recently celebrated World Veterinary Day. We acknowledge vets not only on their skill and knowledge, but their compassion and commitment. It’s a chance to say thank you for the care they give, the lives they save, and the difference they make every single day.

The Royal Australian Navy kept cats aboard ships in both WWI and WWII, they had very essential jobs, cats provided companionship and a sense of normalcy while abroad. There are many letters and diaries from ANZAC troops that mention feeding and naming local cats.

We join Australians and New Zealanders in remembering the bravery, sacrifice, and mate ship of those who served.

🐾!!CASE OF THE WEEK!!🐾

Double bandaged bandit!

This week's case is one of our clinics own! Nurse Lilly brought Basil into the clinic due to excessive licking at both front paws and lameness. She could see splitting on the 5th toenail of each foot, running the length of the nail.

Dr Vicky examined the toes under sedation, unfortunately due to the severity of the split; both nails needed to be removed.

Sweet Bazwaz recovered with his nurse and soaked in all the royalty treatment from the team.

🐾!!CASE OF THE WEEK!!🐾

Little Chaz visited the clinic this week with sudden onset vomiting, lethargy and reluctance to eat and drink. Very unusual for this bubbly and bright character.

Dr Vicky was suspicious that our feline friend had ingested something he shouldn't have. After X-rays and Ultrasound Dr Michael performed an exploratory laparotomy and found a 3cm knotted piece of material in the intestine.

Happy as...Chaz the next day following surgery. Little man went home with some pain relief and to cuddle up with his family. 🐱
