Coinciding with our Adoption Day on Saturday 26 September at Petstock in Penrith, we have something very special happening!

The incredibly talented Alan from Noble Wolf Photography has generously volunteered his time, skills and professional studio setup to photograph your beloved pets, with 100% of proceeds going directly to Brighter Future Cat Rescue 🧡

Whether you have a dog, cat, rabbit, bird or another much-loved family member, this is the perfect opportunity to capture some beautiful professional portraits. All while helping us continue to rescue, care for and find loving homes for cats and kittens in need!

The last few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. Business has felt busier than ever (thank you all! 🥹), but life has also thrown us a few curveballs.

Alex decided to test who would win, him, his dirtbike or a tree… spoiler alert: it was the tree🤦🏼‍♀️ He’s now recovering at home with a couple of broken ribs, I’ve been dealing with my own health issues, and our beautiful Joey recently underwent surgery to have multiple masses removed. Needless to say, social media and new enquiries have taken a bit of a back seat while we’ve focused on getting everyone through it all, thanks to our emotional support cats 😂

We’ve also decided to put a hold on in-home boarding for a little while so we can focus on fostering and make sure every animal in our care gets the attention they deserve. All of our other services are still running as normal!

For those who have been following Joey’s journey, here’s her update…
She had five masses removed, with three sent away for testing. The good news is that all three were removed with clear margins.

One was a benign fibroma, One was a benign haemangioma, likely related to sun damage.
The third was what we were really worried about and came back as a cutaneous melanoma. We’re now waiting on one final specialised test (Ki-67), which has been sent overseas and should give us a better idea of Joey’s long-term prognosis.

A huge thank you to the amazing team at PETstock Vet Dural for taking such incredible care of our girl. Joey has always found vet visits stressful, but they made her feel safe, calm and comfortable every step of the way. A special thank you to her Aunty Liz, who has kept us updated throughout the entire process and loved Joey like one of her own 💜

Thank you to everyone who’s checked in on us while we’ve been a little quieter than usual. We appreciate your patience and support more than you know, and we’re looking forward to getting back to sharing all of our furry adventures with you all! 🐶🐱🩵

Compassion fatigue in rescue is something people don’t talk about enough.

People see the happy adoption photos, the tiny kittens, the glow-ups and the success stories, but they don’t always see the sleepless nights, the emergency vet visits at 3am, the constant worrying, the bottle feeds around the clock, the financial stress, or the heartbreak that comes when love simply isn’t enough to save them.

You carry every loss with you.

You replay every decision in your head wondering if there was something more you could have done, even when deep down you know you did everything possible. You learn to celebrate the wins while quietly grieving the ones that didn’t make it. And somehow, despite how heavy it gets, you keep showing up because the animals still need you.

Compassion fatigue doesn’t mean you care less. If anything, it comes from caring too much for too long without enough time to recover.

Rescue can be beautiful, but it can also be emotionally exhausting, isolating and devastating at times. Behind every foster, rescuer, vet nurse, veterinarian, kennel hand, volunteer and shelter worker is a person carrying far more than most people realise.

Please be kind to the people in rescue right now. Many of us are running on empty while still trying to hold everything together for the animals depending on us 🤍
