It is with deep sadness that CatsWA Governing Council acknowledges the passing of retired judge, Jane Horstman.

"Jane had the respect and friendship of her fellow pedigree cat enthusiasts and we all remember her as a very ‘definite person’.

She set her goals and followed through to achieve those goals in her own style. She was genuine and supportive of others and the cat fancy. Jane’s care and love of cats always shone through.

Jane was a member of the Feline Control Council of WA (CatsWA) for some 25 years.

I met Jane around 1996 when she was a Group 1 Judge. Much later, in 2012, Jane became a Group 3 Judge. Jane would have been in her late 70s when she did this. She was always striving to expand her knowledge and excel in whatever she took on.

In her younger days Jane bred Persian kittens, but as time went by she was owned by a Bengal cat – with even more ‘definite views’ than Jane. We all knew that Jane could not be without a cat and after her retirement from judging in 2017, she adopted a lovely Burmilla cat who I am advised led her a merry dance by stealing her socks and underwear overnight (only in the night) and locating this personal apparel around her lounge downstairs for discovery by who ever visited Jane!

Our condolences to Jane’s family and friends – she was a special person and will be very much missed.

Sue Game on behalf of CatsWA.”
