🎉 Another little milestone on my judging journey! 🐾

Last night I sat my Group 3 (Gundogs) theory examination, and I’m delighted to say I passed! 🥳

Apparently, raising puppies, showing dogs, running Valkyrian and having a to-do list that could keep me occupied for the next six months wasn’t quite enough to keep me busy. So naturally, I decided I needed more homework! 🤣

For those who don’t know, I’m already a licensed Group 6 (Utility) Conformation Judge and Tracking Judge, and I’m currently training in Group 3 (Gundogs) and Group 4 (Hounds).

The study is enormous, occasionally frustrating, and sometimes leaves me wondering why on earth I volunteered for more homework at my age! 😂

But I genuinely love learning, I absolutely love judging, and every step of the journey deepens my appreciation for the wonderful diversity of our purebred dogs.

Of course, with three generations of Weimaraners at home — Kiki, her daughter Karma and granddaughter Fame — perhaps my love of Gundogs shouldn't come as a surprise! 💜

One more exam behind me, plenty more learning ahead, and apparently still no danger of me getting bored!

🐾 LIVE FROM THE VALKYRIAN MATERNITY WARD 🐾

THE DAY SHIFT REPORT — ARI × OSSIE ❤️

Well, after a very long night, several interesting delivery techniques and a maternity ward assistant who has been spectacularly unhelpful, Ari has some exciting news!

❤️ THREE BEAUTIFUL LITTLE GIRLS

Six gorgeous little redheads have officially joined the Valkyrian family! 🐾

Ari decided that having puppies wasn’t something to be rushed. There were scheduled arrivals, unscheduled arrivals, a few rather unconventional entrances and one final little gentleman who turned up at 9:57 am, just when we thought we might be getting somewhere near the finish line.

Mum has been an absolute trooper, and her six little bundles are now sporting their very first coloured collars.

The midwife has survived on iced coffee, chocolate and determination.

The assistant has survived purely because nobody has had time to sack her. 🤣

🐾 LIVE FROM THE VALKYRIAN MATERNITY WARD 🐾

Night Shift Report — 12 October 2026

👑 Mother: Ari. First-time mum. Still waiting for someone to explain why puppies are coming out of her.

👶 Puppy #1: Red girl, 375 g.

Decided to make her entrance as difficult as physically possible. Involved a vaginal stricture, some rather creative midwifery, and a spectacular crash landing on the ONLY patch of exposed concrete in an otherwise lino-covered room.

👶 Puppy #2: Red boy, 516 g.

Apparently found the express lane. Slipped out without so much as a complaint.

👩‍⚕️ Midwife: Experienced, competent, covered in bodily fluids, and wondering why she continues to make these life choices.

🤖 Assistant: Initially convinced every development required an emergency veterinarian.

Stricture? CALL THE VET!

Difficult delivery? CALL THE VET!

Puppy lands on concrete? CALL THE VET!

Has now been firmly reminded that this is NOT the midwife’s first rodeo and has been demoted to clipboard duty. 😂

🐕 Motherhood update: Ari has started licking her babies, although we’re fairly certain she still thinks someone should have warned her about all this.

☕ Current situation: Two puppies delivered, an unknown number still to come, absolutely no sleep in sight, and a very long night ahead.

Stay tuned for further reports from the maternity ward.

Assuming the assistant doesn’t call the vet because somebody sneezed. 🤣❤️

PUPPY OPEN DAY 💜💛

A very big thank you to everyone who joined us for our Puppy Open Day on Sunday. 🥰

I hope you all had as lovely an afternoon as we did.

The puppies had a wonderful time meeting new people, exploring, playing, being cuddled, climbing over absolutely everybody and generally making sure nobody went home without at least a little puppy hair and slobber attached to them. 😂

By the end of the afternoon, however, the batteries were very definitely running low…

As you can see from the photos, several puppies simply selected a convenient human and shut down wherever they landed. 🤣❤️

They slept VERY well afterwards.

Days like this are such an important part of raising our puppies, but they’re also just really special. Some of the people sitting on those blankets will soon be taking one of these little people home and beginning a whole new chapter with them.

Thank you for coming, for getting down on the ground with them, for playing, cuddling and helping make it such a lovely afternoon. 💜💛

Behind the scenes at Valkyrian 💜💛

When you see an established breeder like Valkyrian, it can be easy to imagine there’s a little business operating behind the scenes.

There isn’t.

There’s no administration team answering emails. No kennel staff feeding dogs, cleaning yards or changing puppy bedding. No cleaner tackling the endless washing. No groundskeeper maintaining the property.

There’s no puppy coordinator organising registrations, vaccinations, microchips, temperament testing, puppy visits and collection days. And no social media person taking photos and sharing updates so families can watch their puppies grow.

There’s me. 😊

The person answering your email is the same person who delivered your puppy into the world.

I’m also feeding them, cleaning up after them, watching them grow, socialising them, taking them to the vet, learning their personalities and eventually deciding which puppy is best suited to which family.

Meanwhile, there are adult dogs to feed, exercise, train, show and care for, an acre of property to maintain, paperwork, appointments, family and an extraordinary amount of washing. 😂

Right now, there are 14 puppies here. Fourteen little lives needing care every single day.

Communication with our puppy families matters to me. But sometimes an email will wait.

A puppy who needs me won’t.
A dog who needs me won’t.

The time I spend raising puppies, caring for my dogs, training, showing, learning and doing all the little things that never make it onto Facebook is not time taken away from Valkyrian.

It is Valkyrian.

You’re choosing the generations behind your puppy, the experience behind my decisions, the way our puppies are raised, the way our dogs are cared for, and the standards I’ve spent a lifetime building and protecting.

So sometimes you may wait for a reply.

But while you’re waiting, I’m probably busy doing exactly what you chose me to do.

Taking care of your future family member. 💜💛

EVA’S GIRLS HAD THEIR BIG TEST TODAY! 💜💛

Today was temperament testing day — one of my favourite milestones with a litter.

Each puppy is tested individually, by a stranger, in a strange environment, with no Mum, no sisters and no familiar surroundings to influence them.

And this is where we really start to see who they are. ❤️

Confident? Curious? Independent? People-focused? Sensitive? Adventurous? How do they react when something surprises them — and how quickly do they recover?

There are no “good” or “bad” puppies. We’re gathering another piece of the puzzle that helps us decide which puppy belongs with which family.

And judging by this photo, at least one of Eva’s girls interpreted temperament testing as:

“Excellent. New place. New person. What’s this thing? I’ll investigate.” 🤣

Next comes the exciting bit — matching our three little girls with their families. 🥰

Yesterday, Yellow showed us that a delicate little lady always cleans her feet after dinner. 💛

Today, apparently, she’s decided those standards apply to the rest of the family too. 😂

Poor Coco was just trying to relax with her babies when Yellow noticed that Mum’s ears could do with a little attention.

So she got to work. 🥹💛

Because a delicate little lady doesn’t just keep herself clean…

She makes sure her Mum is presentable too. 😂

Well… that’s definitely a puppy! 😂💜💛

Ari had her ultrasound yesterday and is officially confirmed in whelp to Ossie. 🥰

I’ve seen a lot of puppy ultrasounds over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever had one where you could look at the screen and so clearly think, yep, that’s a little dog in there! 😂

Usually at this stage I’m nodding along while the vet points at various grey blobs and assures me they’re puppies. This little one apparently decided to pose for the camera. 🥹🐾

Ari × Ossie babies are on their way — and this will be an all-red litter. ❤️🐾

Yesterday it was Coco’s puppies’ turn to start solids… and it was an absolute hit. 🥰

Missing from the video is Yellow putting both little front feet straight into the food so she could lean across and make absolutely sure she wasn’t missing anything. 😂

But make sure you watch until the end…

Because a delicate little lady always makes sure she’s clean after dinner. 💛🥹

Every last bit of chicken carefully cleaned from those tiny toes. 😂
