It's National Bird Week!
That means it's time to get outdoors and start counting your feathered friends

BirdLife Australia's Aussie Bird Count runs all week and encourages the community to step outside into nature and spend just 20 minutes observing and counting birds.

You can count from anywhere - your backyard, local park or even here with us at Perth Zoo!

Taking part is one of the easiest (and most fun!) ways to contribute to bird conservation 💚

Tambi’s here! 🎉

We're excited to let you know young male giraffe Tambi has arrived safely at his new home with us at Perth Zoo today.

Tambi travelled more than 3,300km by road across the Nullarbor with a team of expert carers from Melbourne Zoo in his bespoke giraffe trailer. We're told he handled the cross-country trip like a champ thanks to all the preparations and training.

It’s been a loooong journey for this one-year-old giraffe, so for now our teams are focused on letting him rest and settle in at his own pace.

In the coming days, we hope to introduce him to his new female herd mates Kitoto, Ellie and Zahara 🧡

As always, we’re working on ‘animal time’ so we don’t know exactly when you might be able to come and see him, but we’ll keep you updated!

Halloween-themed enrichment is the best kind of enrichment!

We scored our animals Halloween enrichment techniques - extra points given for creativity🤣🎃

But in all seriousness, enrichment like this is a super important part of our animal’s daily lives. It provides them with an ever-changing habitat to ensure no two days are ever the same!

Our dedicated keepers and volunteer Docents put a lot of thought and creativity into species-specific activities that encourage our animals to use their natural instincts or practice problem solving skills like they would in the wild.

At this time of year, it’s fun to add a spooky twist! 👻
