IMPORTANT ๐Ÿšจ

Weโ€™ve had a very concerning report:
A resident was verbally asked to pay 12 monthsโ€™ rent in advance โ€œon the quietโ€ to secure a tenancy.
Nothing written.
Nothing official.
Just a whisper.

For anyone unsure:
๐Ÿ‘‰ In Queensland, it is illegal for a landlord or agent to ask for more than 1 monthโ€™s rent in advance.
๐Ÿ‘‰ A tenant may offer more โ€” but they cannot be pressured, hinted, or told it will โ€œsecureโ€ the property.

Is this a oneโ€‘off โ€” or is it happening to others?

Have you ever been asked โ€” verbally or otherwise โ€” to pay more rent in advance than the law allows?

Former Australian of the Year Professor Richard Scolyer has died aged 59 after a remarkable fight against the 'worst of the worst brain cancers'.

His legacy โ€” fast-tracking revolutionary cancer treatment by becoming "patient zero" for an experimental approach.

One of the world's top melanoma pathologists, Professor Scolyer and his colleagues took everything they had learnt about fighting melanoma and adapted it to brain cancer treatment.

It resulted in valuable data that showed how immunotherapy could be used for brain cancer โ€“ a cancer that has few advances in treatment for almost two decades.

"I hope this has the power to transform how we treat all cancers, to think big and be courageous.โ€ - Professor Scolyer.

Handed a prognosis of six months to a year Professor Scolyer kept his cancer at bay for 22 months using the trial treatment before the glioblastoma returned in March 2025.

Imagine waking up in a hospital bed, physically recovering from a fall, only to realize the home you knew is no longer yours. For one of our own, this isn't a nightmareโ€”itโ€™s the sudden, harsh reality of becoming homeless overnight.
โ€‹
A kind neighbor and friend has been displaced after a medical emergency. She is currently without a place to call home, navigating the overwhelming uncertainty of what comes next. In a community as vibrant and caring as ours, no one should have to face this journey alone.

Do you have a lead on temporary accommodation, a spare room, or resources that could help someone get back on their feet in the Northern Gold Coast area?
โ€‹
If you have any leads, please reach out via private message or comment below so we can connect her with the help she needs immediately. Letโ€™s show what our community is truly made of.

Why does Gold Coast Common Ground exist?
โ€‹Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Many of you have noticed our page evolving over the past few months. As we move forward under the name Gold Coast Common Ground, we want to take a moment to share a little bit about who we are and what weโ€™re trying to achieve here.
โ€‹
Whether itโ€™s sharing updates on community projects, highlighting local events, or just discussing how we can make our neighborhood a better place to live, the goal has always been simple: to create a space that feels like a true community. We want to be a neighborly hub for the northern Gold Coastโ€”a place where we can share information, support each other, and celebrate the unique spirit of our area.
โ€‹Who funds us?
In the interest of total transparency: we are 100% self-funded and grassroots. There is no corporate backing, no political party funding. This page is run by residents, for residents. Itโ€™s a labor of love, fueled by the desire to see our community grow stronger and more connected every day.
โ€‹Does it work?
The "work" isn't about profit or metrics; itโ€™s about impact. When we share information that helps a neighbor solve a problem, when we bring awareness to a local initiative, or when we simply help someone feel more "at home" in their neighborhood, thatโ€™s when it works.
โ€‹This page is a collective effort. It works best when you join in, share your own experiences, and help us keep the conversation friendly and helpful.
โ€‹Thank you for being part of the journey. Letโ€™s keep building a stronger Gold Coast, one conversation at a time. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธโœจ

Did you hear the rumour that Coomera is getting an Olympic Village for 2032?
Turns outโ€ฆ thatโ€™s not actually true.

The official 2032 Delivery Plan and Gold Coast venue list:
โœ” Coomera Indoor Sports Centre is a confirmed Olympic competition venue.
โœ˜ No Olympic Village is planned for Coomera โ€” the only Gold Coast village will be at Royal Pines, Benowa.
Coomera will benefit from transport upgrades, but no housing legacy project is linked to the Games in the north.

If the north isnโ€™t getting an Olympic Village or housing legacy, what should the longโ€‘term investment priority be for Coomera and Pimpama?

Whatโ€™s the ONE thing Coomera needs before 2032? Tell us below

The Gold Coastโ€™s upcoming $300 million surf and golf resort, Palm Valley at Parkwood, just scored a major $4 million funding boost from the Queensland Government. Backed by three-time world champ Mick Fanning, the project is officially tracking to become a high-performance training hub for athletes ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
