Can you identify the issue with this saddle? 👀

A new client presented to me with a pony experiencing unexplained soreness over his back. It comes as no surprise to a saddle fitter as to why the pony was feeling so uncomfortable!
Routine saddle fits/checks are crucial, as this case illustrates.

FLOCKING 🐑
A great example below of flocking that needs to be replaced (hard & lumpy)

Causes High-Pressure Zones: Instead of a broad, even surface, the saddle bears down heavily on isolated, rock-hard spots.

Restricted Blood Flow: Peak pressure points exceeding 30 kPa restrict capillaries in the back, preventing proper blood flow to the muscles.

Tissue and Muscle Damage: Lack of circulation and repeated riding on hard lumps can cause tissue damage, white hair growth, or even muscle atrophy (where the muscle physically wastes away due to pain/lack of use)

Bruising: In severe cases, hard panels can actually bruise the horse's back muscles, resulting in significant time off work to heal.

The old tired flocking was replaced with fresh soft flocking, a great result for horse and rider.
