If you want to get training "right", then maybe it's time to find the trainer that understands what is right for you.

It's not a bad way of thinking, it's just causing a paralysing fear that keeps you stuck in the loop. Let's break out of the loop and break out of the behaviours causing you frustration and stress.

Every one and every dog is an individual. The right training for someone else may not be the right training for you.

Congratulations to the latest puppy graduates!!

This class certainly had the cute factor 😍

Owner dedication in this class was 💯 and it showed! Puppy training is all about the puppy but it starts with you.

I couldn't be more proud of the effort these guys showed during our time together. Keep up the fantastic work 👏

Whether it's dog mum training or general mum life. I'm your number one fan.

Nothing is too big or too small.

Love from a sh*tty sleeping toddler mum and former reactive dog mum 🤍

Training is such a rewarding process when done well.

Today my partner packed the dog leads, grabbed the toddler and started to walk out the front yard with Peppy.

I get a text message a minute later:

"Peppy doesn't want to come."

I open the door and there he is, sitting in the sunshine. I started to walk to the front gate and what do you know. He wanted to go.

Peppy didn't want to go because he didn't want the walk. He didn't want to go because his relationship with me was more important.

This relationship built on trust and understanding. I have done all of Peppy's training, my partner has been present and supportive but I'm the one that has been there for Peppy. We overcame his reactivity together. We have experienced the highs and lows side by side.

That is the magic of training.

I didn't need a recall, I didn't need treats, I didn't need to be more exciting. Our relationship proved how strong it was in that moment.

In short - NO. Hops is not relaxed or truly settled into position.

Yes, he's laying down but this day I intentionally set it up for the environment to feel harder for him.

Before an outing like this, my first step is to meet his physical needs but on this day I didn't. I wanted to see how he could handle the situation first up.

Overall, Hops did amazing. He was able to show great control when his instincts told him to move. That is what you're seeing in the video. He is positioned ready to move but is choosing to be still. He's scanning the environment and that caused him to go from standing to sitting to laying down and back to standing again. He never TRULY settled into the environment but he handled his excitement well.

That day I wasn't aiming for perfect, I was gaining insight into where he is in his head and for a young dog he did extremely well.

Afterwards, he got home and slept all afternoon. It was a hard but great outing for him.

For context Hops is an entire 18 month old Whippet x Kelpie. He's full blown adolescence mode and has energy for days.
