Well I certainly had an interesting ride at the Serpentine Grand Prix over the weekend 😅
Halfway around the course, Miss Savvy decided that the golfers moving through the bush were simply too much for her to process. When she feels overwhelmed, her default response is to switch straight into shutdown mode, and unfortunately the brakes went on completely.
We took the time to work through it and were eventually able to navigate past the spooky section, but the delay meant we exceeded the time limit and had to retire from the round.
While this wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for, riding is all about overcoming challenges. Every obstacle we encounter with our horses, whether it’s a moment of uncertainty, a loss of confidence, or a setback in training provides valuable insight. These experiences teach us more about our horses, highlight areas that need further development, and remind us where patience and consistency are required.
Success isn’t measured by having a perfect ride every time. It’s measured by our willingness to learn from each experience, go home with a plan, and return better prepared for the next challenge. This weekend may not have gone to plan, but it gave us plenty of information to take forward, and that’s all part of the journey. 💛🐴
