🐾 A Little Send-Off for Banjo

Over the past little while, Banjo has been staying with me for an intensive rehabilitation program — and what a journey it has been. His determination, heart, and willingness to keep trying every single day have made him such a special patient to work with.

Today we added a new set of wheels to help turbo charge his wheelchair sessions. Using Maximus Skates allows his paws to be supported while still encouraging natural leg movement, helping build confidence and promote more active stepping during therapy.

Tomorrow Banjo heads back home to his very dedicated owner, and while this chapter of his rehab finishes here, his journey is far from over. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of his progress and to watch his personality shine through every challenge 💛

Safe travels home, Banjo — keep moving forward, one step at a time.

This little man is currently boarding with me while we work through intensive rehabilitation following spinal surgery for IVDD 💙

I’ve always been a huge advocate for enrichment and quality of life, and that means not locking dogs away in a cage and waiting for recovery to happen. Helping him stay social, curious and engaged with the world is just as important as the physical rehab itself.

Getting out and about under his own steam matters. It supports his body and his emotional wellbeing. New sights, new smells, people to watch, and even the chance to interact with others all play a role in healing.

While the ultimate goal of intensive rehab is for him to use his own legs again, the wheelchair is an important part of that journey. It supports rehabilitation exercises, builds confidence, and most importantly keeps him connected with life.

And as you can see… he’s a pretty happy little chappie 🐾✨

Budget matters — especially right now — but cheap doesn’t always mean good value.

I know times are tough, and many families are doing their absolute best for their pets while juggling rising costs 🤍 That’s exactly why it’s important to talk honestly about pet wheelchairs.

Cheaper options can look appealing, but some cost less upfront and:
• Don’t fit correctly
• Can’t adapt as your pet’s needs change
• Break or wear out quickly

A well-designed wheelchair should support your pet’s body, protect their spine, and adapt over time — not create new problems.

I’ve shared my experience and what to look for in my latest blog:

🐶💛 Mobility-challenged pets deserve extra love and support, and it doesn’t always take fancy equipment.

Gentle massage, stretches, sunbathing, raised bowls, brain games—and yes, even prams or garden carts—can make everyday life so much easier and more enjoyable for our pets.

I’ve put together all my tips and ideas in a new blog post to help your furry family members live their happiest, most enriched lives. 🌞

I’m now offering specialised boarding for pets requiring additional care, including medication management and mobility support.
As part of their enrichment, I use mobility-friendly outings like today’s Pet Pram walk — and this lovely girl showed great engagement, lifting herself up to better view her surroundings.
While not all pets are wheelchair candidates, enabling them to safely explore their environment is still essential to their wellbeing.

🐾 Did you know?
HandicappedPets Australia also provides back braces for dogs living with back issues — including IVDD.

I recently shared an excellent educational webinar from SASH - Small Animal Specialist Hospital , created especially for Dachshund owners, covering ways to help reduce the risk of IVDD. While prevention through strengthening and smart management is always ideal, sometimes even the best efforts can’t stop an injury from happening.

That’s where we step in.
At HandicappedPets Australia, we proudly partner with WiggleLess to offer high-quality Back Brace support for dogs who need a little extra help.

✨ WiggleLess Back Braces come in:
• 8 sizes – from 8" to 21" (20–54 cm)
• 5 colours – Blue, Pink, Olive, Charcoal, and Red

If you think your pup could benefit from extra spinal support, contact us today for more information. We’re here to help your pet feel safe, supported, and happy again. ❤️🐶

🏡💚 House call for the handsome Arnie!

Just 11 weeks post-surgery, Arnie was fitted with his Walkin’ Pets spiffy Seafoam Green wheelchair, complete with Walkin’ Pets Vest and Belly Support.

His sister wasn’t too sure about his new set of wheels 😅 — but Arnie was ready to roll! He waited patiently in the hallway, looking up at his lead as if to say, “Okay, walk time now?” 🐾💚

🚗💨 After a long chauffeur-driven journey, Ralph Lauren popped in last week to join the latest fashion movement!

He’s now rocking his very own set of go-fast wheels paired with the sleek Front Warrior Harness 💪🐾

A little rest was needed after the big trip, but once home and recharged, Ralph was back to full speed — zooming around with pure joy and abandon alongside his sibling! ❤️✨

🐾 Is your dog living with IVDD? 🐾

A diagnosis of Intervertebral Disc Disease can be overwhelming, but a wheelchair is just one tool in helping your dog stay mobile and comfortable. Rehabilitation, supportive braces like WiggleLess, hydrotherapy, and new options such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can all play an important role in recovery and long-term wellbeing.

Every dog’s journey is unique — and with the right guidance, they can move, heal, and enjoy life again.
