3 surgeries happening at once! Our team was busy in theatre with two colic surgeries and a uterine tear repair, all requiring a coordinated effort from our vets, nurses and support team. If you look closely, you might spot one of our colic patients tucked away in Sterile 2.

A big team effort to keep everything running smoothly when multiple patients need surgery at the same time. 👏

This week is Veterinary Nurse and Technician Week, and we want to recognise the team across the Group.

Our Nurses & Technicians are involved in almost every part of a horse’s stay with us. They prepare for surgery and monitor patients under anaesthesia. They look after horses in ICU overnight, care for foals in the neonatal unit, and run treatments, bandaging and patient monitoring through the day. Assist with lameness work ups, stallion collections and semen shipments. Much of this work happens behind the scenes.

This 11-day-old Clydesdale filly was referred to Scone Equine Hospital by Dr Molly Renowden at Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre with acute left hindlimb lameness, a fever and purulent discharge from her umbilicus.

Ultrasound confirmed an umbilical infection, while examination of the left stifle showed mild peri-articular swelling. Joint fluid samples were consistent with non-septic inflammation.
The filly was treated with antibiotics and monitored overnight in hospital. By the following morning, she was bright, nursing well, her temperature had returned to normal and her lameness had resolved.

A great outcome for this little filly, who was able to return home with ongoing monitoring recommendations. 🐴

Fun Friday is a chance for our team to ditch the usual workwear and bring out the bright, colourful and funny scrubs/shirts. 👕😜

It’s all about bringing a bit of colour to the hospital, having a laugh and giving the team an excuse to get creative with their Friday outfits.

Judging by some of the looks we have seen already, the team has definitely embraced it!
