π Worming β it's one of those things that's easy to put off, but makes a real difference to your animals' health.
Whether you've got a dog at home, a mob of sheep, a few head of cattle, or horses out in the paddock β regular worming is one of the simplest ways to keep them healthy and thriving.
WHY IT MATTERS
Worms can cause weight loss, poor coat condition, diarrhoea, anaemia, and in young or vulnerable animals, they can be life-threatening. The tricky part? Many animals carry a significant worm burden without showing obvious signs until things are already serious.
HOW OFTEN?
β
Dogs & cats β every 3 months for adults; more frequently for puppies and kittens
β
Sheep & cattle β at least twice a year, with strategic treatments around lambing/calving and after wet seasons. Resistance is a real issue β rotating drenches matters.
β
Horses β every 6β12 weeks depending on age and risk, with a targeted approach based on egg counts for adults
SIGNS YOUR ANIMAL MAY HAVE A WORM BURDEN
β’ Unexplained weight loss or poor condition
β’ Dull, rough coat or fleece
β’ Pot-bellied appearance (especially in young animals)
β’ Loose stools or diarrhoea
β’ Lethargy or reduced performance
β’ Bottle jaw (swelling under the chin) in sheep and cattle
A NOTE ON DRENCH RESISTANCE
This is a growing problem across Victoria. If you're not seeing results from worming treatments, or if you'd like to check whether your current drench program is still working, you should look at setting up a faecal egg count program β a simple and cost-effective way to know what's actually going on.
Not sure which product to use, how often to treat, or whether your current program is working? Give us a call β we're happy to talk it through for your specific animals and situation.
