Sometimes our pet vomits, seems a little wobbly or just isn’t quite themselves… and we think, “Let’s wait and see how they go.”

With paralysis ticks, that can be risky.

As Dr Shibly shows here, something incredibly tiny can make a pet very sick and once symptoms start, they can go downhill quickly.

If your pet is suddenly vomiting, weak or wobbly, unusually quiet, has a change in their bark or meow, or is breathing differently, don’t wait and see. Call your vet.

Reunited!

Well, Zeus had himself a little adventure. 😂

This cheeky little escape artist managed to get out, but thankfully he was found safe and sound and brought in to us at Windaroo Vet.

And then came the best bit ; reuniting Zeus with his very relieved mum.

While he waited, Nurse Alana was completely smitten and made sure he had plenty of yummy treats and attention. 💜

We’re very glad your adventure had a happy ending, Zeus.

Maybe stay home next time, little man. 😂🐾

Well, Zeus had himself a little adventure. 😂

That little swab can tell us a lot.

We collect a sample from your pet's ear, place it onto a microscope slide, stain it and then take a closer look.

Under the microscope, we're looking for things such as yeast and bacteria that can help us understand what's going on inside that itchy, sore or smelly ear.

Because not every ear problem is the same and knowing what we're dealing with helps your vet decide on the most appropriate treatment.

💬 𝗠𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿… 𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸?

They're scratching less.

The eye looks better.

The wound seems to be healing.

So it’s completely reasonable to wonder why your vet has asked to see them again.

Feeling better and being fully recovered aren't always the same thing.

A recheck lets us see whether the treatment has actually done what we wanted it to do and whether it's safe to stop, needs a little longer, or needs to change.

Take an ear infection.

Your dog may stop scratching once the inflammation settles, but looking back inside the ear and sometimes checking another sample can tell us whether the underlying problem has actually resolved.

The same principle can apply to skin problems, wounds, eye conditions, ongoing illnesses and many other treatments.

Rechecks also give you a chance to tell us what happened at home.

What improved?
What didn't?
Was giving the medication difficult?
Did something new happen?

That information matters.

🐾 Think of a recheck as finishing the conversation we started at the first visit.

If we've asked to see your pet again, there should be a reason. And if you're not sure what we're checking for, please ask us — we're happy to explain.
