Brave Pet Winner – Zoe:
Zoe, a sweet 14-year-old Dashy was rushed in with vomiting, wobbliness, circling to the left, and rapid eye movements (known as nystagmus). All these scary signs started less than 12 hours’ prior and were getting worse quickly! We did a full physical and neurological exam and ran blood tests. The blood tests came back reassuring - causes like toxins were ruled out. Fortunately, the neurological exam suggested things like a stroke, brain tumour or partial seizures were too unlikely. Zoe was experiencing vertigo! Vertigo can last for up to 3 weeks but does eventually pass so Zoe was sent home with anti-nausea tablets, nerve calming tablets and we gave her fluids under the skin to help with mild dehydration and in less than a week she was back to her old self! Well done Zoe!

I’ve got that “it’s Friday, Friday…” stuck in my head… and honestly we’re not mad about it.

Brave pet winner Tank

A big shout out to this brave Kitty. Sadly, Tank developed a condition called Precursor - targeted Immune Mediated Anaemia (PIMA). This rare and severe autoimmune disorder causes a persistent non-regenerative anaemia by destroying red blood cell precursors within the bone marrow. Patients often need multiple blood transfusions for months ongoing.

Tank endured immune suppressive medications (to try and stop his own immune system attacking itself) a xenotransfusion (dog blood), a cat blood transfusion at UQ Gatton followed by another cat blood transfusion from our very own clinic kitty Mindee within the first 1 month from diagnosis.

We had this post scheduled for tomorrow. The pic was taken 17th June . Sadly we learned today that Tank has passed but we still wanted to hero him and share his story. He was a remarkable cat- he never complained, always the friendly, affectionate big guy. You had a good fight buddy. You are truly missed. 💜
