πŸΆπŸ‘‚ HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR DOG HAS AN EAR INFECTION

Is your dog shaking their head more than usual or constantly scratching at their ears? It could be a sign of an ear infection.

Ear infections can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful for our pets, so it’s important to recognise the signs and have their ears checked if you notice something unusual.

πŸ‘€ Some common signs include:

1️⃣ Frequent ear scratching or head shaking
If your dog is constantly scratching at their ears or shaking their head, they may be experiencing irritation or discomfort.

2️⃣ Unpleasant odour or discharge
A strong or unusual smell, waxy build-up or discharge from the ear can be a sign that something isn't quite right.

3️⃣ Redness or swelling
Take a look at the visible part of your dog's ear. Redness, swelling or irritation can indicate inflammation or infection.

⚠️ It's important to remember: These signs don't always mean your dog has an ear infection. Ear problems can have different causes, including allergies, parasites or foreign material, so your vet will need to examine the ear to determine the cause.

If your dog is showing any of these signs, don't wait for it to become more uncomfortable. Book an appointment with our veterinary team so we can get to the bottom of it.

🌈 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day | 28 August 🌈

On 28 August, we remember the beloved companions who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and the incredible mark they leave on our lives.

Whether they had paws, hooves, wings, scales or fur, every animal leaves behind a lifetime of treasured memories, unconditional love and a bond that never truly disappears. Their companionship may have ended, but the love we shared with them remains in our hearts forever.

Today, we remember the pets who were once part of our families, the ones who made us laugh, comforted us through difficult days and gave us a lifetime of unconditional love.

To every family missing a beloved companion today, we see you, we remember them with you, and we understand how deeply they are missed. ❀️

We would also like to thank our wonderful veterinary partners and fellow animal care professionals. We are incredibly proud to work alongside people who share our commitment to caring for pets and supporting their families through every stage of their journey, including saying goodbye with compassion and dignity.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Never forgotten. 🌈

🦷 DOES BAD BREATH = DENTAL DISEASE? 🐢🐱

That not-so-fresh breath might be more than just a little unpleasant... it can be a sign of dental disease.

Dental disease is extremely common in pets, and bad breath can be one of the first signs that something is going on below the surface. As plaque and tartar build up, bacteria can cause inflammation, infection and damage to the teeth and gums.

πŸ‘€ Keep an eye out for:
β€’ Bad breath
β€’ Yellow or brown tartar build-up
β€’ Red, swollen or bleeding gums
β€’ Difficulty chewing
β€’ Dropping food
β€’ Pawing at the mouth
β€’ Changes in eating habits

🦷 Swipe to see the difference!
This before-and-after shows the results of a dental procedure performed here at Ripley Vet Hospital.

Regular dental checks can help identify problems early and keep those teeth and gums healthy.

If your pet's breath could clear the room, it might be time for a dental check! Give us a call on 07 3816 4717 to book an appointment.

Mary's Testimony:

"There is something incredibly special about working alongside people who care as deeply as this team does.

Every day, I have the privilege of working with people I admire and respect. People who willingly give their time, energy, and hearts to support our community, even when the work can be exhausting or, at times, feel thankless. Yet they continue to show up, because they know that every life they help makes it worthwhile.

We often talk about the difference we make for our patients and their families, but I don't think we talk enough about the difference we make for each other.

I spend around 80% of my waking life with this team, and they spend 80% of theirs with me. Somewhere along the way, they became so much more than colleagues. They became my friends, my chosen people.

How blessed am I to walk into work each day and be welcomed by people who lift one another up, laugh together, cry together, and celebrate together?

I never want to take this for granted. I am so incredibly grateful that this is my life."
