💗 Happy Vet Nurse Day from Ripley Veterinary Hospital! 💗

On Friday, we celebrated our amazing team of vet nurses and took a moment to recognise the incredible work they do every single day.

From caring for our patients and comforting worried pets, to supporting our vets, reassuring our clients and keeping everything running behind the scenes, our nurses are such an important part of what makes our clinic special.

Vet nursing takes compassion, patience, dedication and a whole lot of heart. We are so lucky to have a team who gives so much of themselves to the animals in their care.

Our team took the opportunity to share some lovely messages of appreciation with one another, reminding us just how much the little things we do every day mean to the people around us. ❤️

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible veterinary nurses who make such a difference here at Ripley Veterinary Hospital.

From caring for our patients during their most vulnerable moments to keeping tails wagging, comforting worried owners, assisting with surgeries, and working tirelessly behind the scenes, our nurses are an essential part of everything we do.

Their compassion, dedication, knowledge and hard work never go unnoticed, and we are so lucky to have such an amazing team caring for our patients and supporting our clients every day.

🐍 SNAKE SEASON IS HERE 🐍

Snake bite cases are currently on the rise, and with warmer weather upon us, it’s important to know what to do if you suspect your pet has been bitten.

⚠️ If you think your pet has been bitten by a snake, treat it as an emergency.

🏥 Go straight to your nearest veterinary clinic and do not wait for symptoms to develop. Snake bite can become life-threatening very quickly, even if your pet initially appears okay.

📞 Please call the veterinary clinic before you arrive to let them know you are on your way and to check that they have the appropriate anti-venom available.

Keep your pet as calm and still as possible during transport, and follow your vet’s instructions.

If you’re concerned your pet may have encountered a snake, don’t wait and see. Seek veterinary attention immediately.

⛈️ Storm Season is Coming! 🐾

Storms can be more than just loud and scary for our pets. Thunder, lightning, heavy rain and sudden changes in the environment can cause some cats and dogs to become extremely anxious and distressed.

🐶🐱 If your pet struggles during storms, there are things we can do to help them feel safer and more comfortable, including creating a calm environment, using behavioural strategies and, for some pets, medication to help manage their anxiety.

💊 Medication can be a helpful part of a storm-anxiety plan, but please don’t leave it until the last minute. Your pet will need a consultation with one of our vets to discuss their individual needs and whether medication is appropriate.

📅 If storms are a stressful time for your pet, we encourage you to book a consultation before storm season is in full swing so you can have a plan in place.

🐾 Why can’t we just refill my pet’s medication?

We understand that if your pet has been taking the same medication for a while, it can feel like a simple refill should be all that’s needed.

However, some medications require your pet to have regular veterinary check-ups. This gives our vets the opportunity to make sure their treatment is still appropriate, their dose is correct, and there haven’t been any changes in their health that could affect their medication.

Regular reviews are especially important for pets taking long-term medications, as their needs can change over time. ❤️

So when we ask you to book an appointment before dispensing certain medications, it’s not about making things difficult. It’s about making sure we’re providing the safest and most appropriate care for your pet.
