Welcome to Melbourne Animal Specialist Hospital, a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital opening its doors in winter 2023. Our mission is to provide the highest quality and most advanced veterinary care to pets in need. As a multidisciplinary specialist hospital, we aim to offer a range of specialties, including internal medicine, orthopaedic-, soft tissue- and neuro-surgery, as well as specialist diagnostic imaging. Our advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities allow us to offer the most up-to-date and effective care to our patients. Together with our planned 24-hour emergency and critical care centre, we are dedicated to providing the most comprehensive care for pets with complex medical conditions.

The criteria:
🩸 Lean body weight >25kg
🩸 Fully vaccinated
🩸 No long term medications
🩸 Aged 1-7 years
🩸 No previous blood transfusions
🩸 Up to date with flea + parasite prevention
🩸 Not pregnant or lactating
🩸 Has not donated within the last 3 months

Every donation comes with complimentary health check & blood testing, and a bag of dog food to say thank you

🥹🍽️ Mealtimes look a little different for some of our special patients!

Meet Leo the cute Frenchie, who decided that eating from his bowl just wasn’t quite his style… he much prefers to be hand fed by his nurses! 🐾❤️

And honestly? If that’s what it takes to make sure our special boy eats his full meal, then hand-feeding it is! 🥰

Behind closed doors, our patients receive so much more than just medical treatment. We take the time to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, loved and cared for throughout their hospital stay.

Sometimes that means extra cuddles, a little more patience, or even sitting beside them and hand feeding every bite. 🥹

Every now and then, our staff pets make an appearance at the hospital — and we certainly don’t mind having a few extra wagging tails around! 🐕✨

They bring plenty of cuddles, personality and smiles to the team while they’re here. After all, who says our staff can’t have their own four-legged coworkers? 🐾

Did you know it was possible to perform certain surgical procedures laparoscopically?

🐾What does this mean?

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique that allows our surgeons to perform certain surgeries through small incisions using a camera & specialised instruments. This is sometimes referred to as “keyhole” surgery.

🐾Why choose it?

The minimally invasive approach causes less trauma to the body wall. This results in less post operative pain, reduced risk of complications and faster recovery times.

🐾What we offer?

At MASH we perform a range of laparoscopic procedures including these routine surgeries:
Spey (Desexing)
Gastropexy (Prevention of GDV / Bloat)
Both together!

Millers Adventure🐾

Miller is a 9 month old Golden Retriever puppy who is super energetic and full of beans.

He presented to the ECC team at MASH for having very bad diarrhoea and vomiting. Miller was known to have previously eaten things he shouldn’t, so this was a cause for concern.

After further investigation it was discovered that Miller had a less common kind of emergency - the specialist diagnosed him with an “intussusception”.

Intussusception refers to a part of the intestine sliding in on itself, creating a telescoping effect, which can then cause a blockage. He was immediately transferred to surgery for an exploratory laparotomy to correct the intussusception and relieve the blockage.

Despite this diagnosis Miller never stopped being his bouncy and bubbly self. Have a swipe through his recovery, and see him at his 2 week check, and a visual representation of the intussusception.

A gentle approach to better care. 🤍

For our feline patients🐱, every detail matters — from the environment around them to handling techniques.

Bobbi is a beautiful candidate — you can see her having a lovely time hanging upside down, whilst having a cuddle with nurse Emma and simultaneously having an ultrasound performed on surgical site by Dr. Amelia.

By taking the time to work with our patients, rather than simply restraining them, we can create a more positive veterinary experience while obtaining the diagnostic information we need. Our approach to handling focuses on reducing fear, anxiety and stress wherever possible.🐾

Just here to make your day 100% cuter 🐾💗

We’re pretty sure this little face deserves extra treats, extra cuddles, and maybe a little bit of special treatment too!

There’s nothing quite like a puppy visit at the clinic — waggy tails, curious little noses, puppy kisses and plenty of smiles all around.

These moments are definitely one of the sweetest parts of what we do!

Safe to say, this gorgeous little one left with our hearts a little fuller. 🥰🐾

Who else thinks that big puppy smile is impossible to resist? 👀💗
