Meet Louis, the Irish Wolfhound cross with a big heart and some big feelings about the pool.
Today’s session was all about helping Louis feel safer and more in control around the water, using gentle, force-free training and going at his pace. We focused on:
• Building positive associations with the pool from a comfortable distance
• Letting Louis pick the pace, so he never felt overwhelmed
• Using rewards, calm body language, and short sessions to keep his anxiety low.
Pool anxiety is really common and it’s not about being “naughty” – it’s a fear response, and with the right support dogs can learn to feel much more relaxed and confident. If your dog struggles with water, noise, or new environments, positive, tailored training can make a huge difference.
So proud of Louis for his bravery today – he did such a beautiful job checking in with his humans and taking each step when he was ready.
Fur Get Me Not – helping anxious and sensitive dogs feel safe, understood, and supported.
