😳… I believe I’m either turning into a mushroom or I’ve become a mushroom sympathiser. Whilst mixing hardwood sawdust and wheat bran bags I looked at it and thought, “my goodness that looks yum” and I started to SALIVATE!!! This is not normal human behaviour! The decent into madness has begun… 🤤😱🍄‍🟫😂

In our relationship, I’ve always been the creative one whilst Steven was the ‘doer’. However! All of that changed when the mushroom stall went live. Steven decided to create 500gm boxes and every day, without fail, someone will walk past and say “I thought you were selling flowers!”, or “they look too good to eat!”. Who knew my husband had the creative gene. 🥰

Today we attended a Shiitake log making workshop run by the lovely Amy and Mickey from Little Acre Gourmet Mushrooms at Neighbourhood Farm in Oxley. Lovely day, lovely people and, as always, we learned many new things. PLUS! We got a sneak peak in how to best grow W**e Cap mushrooms - another mushroom I’d love to cultivate. Loving the winter days in Queensland. Watch this space as we add Shiitake logs to our market stall. 😁. 🍄‍🟫🤎🍄‍🟫

When your Nameko mushroom is bringing mixed messages.
I can’t tell if it’s calling me a d’head or if it’s pointing the way. I’m open to both, nobody is perfect. 😂 Nameko mushrooms: developing attitude since 2026. 🍄‍🟫

So today our Japanese Kitkat loving customer brought us in two new varieties. Sake and Strawberry. Wishing I’d started with strawberry as this is my face after consuming a Sake flavoured kitkat. It twas a tad winky. 😉 My husband loved it though - even though he doesn’t drink alcohol. I may have to stack up on Sake Kitkats for him to consume at the next party. Thanks ! Hoping for a prettier face with the strawberry one. 😁🙏🏼

Had a ‘Celestine Prophecy’ moment at the markets last week when one of our regular customers asked, “do you do anything to ‘connect’ with your mushrooms? Have you heard of Merlin Sheldrake and read his book?”. A few hours later one of our other regular customers came in and said “I was wondering if you’d like to read this book - it’s fascinating what he discovered about the mushroom network…” Then I see the author’s name. It’s like the Universe is telling me I have to read this book post haste!!! Always watch for the coincidences. Usually it’s a sign that needs to be followed. 📖 🍄‍🟫 😍

I know some of you have noticed the change in logo but as it’s now July 1st I can make the offical announcement. Small Town Mushrooms was Steven’s baby from the end of 2024. I took it over, somewhat reluctantly, in June/July of 2025 and decided that as I was now doing 95% of the work that it was now MY business and I wanted to rename it. Yes there were tears but don’t worry, Steven will be ok. 😊 Marie’s Mushrooms is now offical. Website is up, market stall is ticking along nicely, 15 types of mushrooms are cultivating nicely and expansion is on the cards. 🎉👏🏻🎉 Marie’s Mushrooms est. 2026. 🤎🍄‍🟫 Watch this space. Maitake mushrooms have reentered the battle zone. They are my next Everest. 🏔️

One of our lovely regular customers, who recently visited Japan but also loves Matcha, brought in a Matcha kitkat for us to try… As you can see from my expression - I’m not really a fan. Tasted like grass with added sugar. 😂 Thanks anyway !!! I’ll stick with the ones made of cocoa. (I’m a bit of a traditionalist 😁).

When your Ivory Shimeji mushroom doesn’t understand ‘team work’, nor can I sell a single lone mushroom… 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m getting a bit too much attitude and independence from the shroom. Back to the drawing board AGAIN(!) to figure out what’s it’s game. He did not understand the assignment. 🍄‍🟫
