🩸🐾 Major the lifesaver! ❤️

Meet Major, who recently visited Proserpine Veterinary Surgery to generously donate his blood and help give another pet a fighting chance! 🐶💉

Did you know that dogs can need blood transfusions too? Whether it’s following a traumatic injury, during surgery or due to certain illnesses, donated blood can be absolutely lifesaving for our furry friends.

❤️ Could your dog be a hero like Major?

We’re always grateful for dogs who may be suitable blood donors! While requirements can vary, potential donors generally need to:

🐾 Be healthy and have a lovely, calm temperament.
🐾 Weigh at least 25–30 kg.
🐾 Be between 1 and 8 years old.
🐾 Be up to date with vaccinations and parasite prevention.
🐾 Have a suitable medical history and pass a veterinary health assessment.

🩺 Before donating, dogs undergo a health check and blood testing to make sure they’re suitable to donate.

Blood donations can make a world of difference to pets and their families during some of their most difficult moments. We’re incredibly proud of Major for being such a good boy and helping another animal in need! 🥹❤️

💗 Farewell to our beautiful Kelly! 💗

It’s time to say goodbye to our lovely nurse Kelly as she heads back to Melbourne! 🥹✈️

Kelly has been such a wonderful part of our team, and we’re certainly going to miss seeing her smiling face at reception and around the clinic. 🐾💕

💜🐾 HAPPY VET NURSE DAY! 🐾💜

There's a lot more to being a vet nurse than cuddling puppies and kittens (although we'd be lying if we said that wasn't one of the perks!).

It's the early mornings, the late finishes, the missed lunch breaks and the days that don't quite go to plan.

It's sitting on the floor with a nervous patient, finding that little bit of extra patience for a frightened animal, celebrating the smallest wins and sometimes shedding a few tears over the ones you couldn't save.

It's the laughs in the treatment room, the friendships formed in the chaos, the endless washing, the mystery stains and the ability to find humour in some pretty questionable situations. 😂

But above all, it's caring. Really, genuinely caring.

And that's something you simply can't teach.

To our wonderful nursing team at Proserpine Veterinary Surgery, thank you for the heart you bring to this clinic. For the compassion you show when nobody is watching, the extra mile you go without being asked, and the countless little things you do that make an enormous difference.

We know the job isn't always easy. Some days take more out of you than others, and some patients stay with you long after you've clocked off.

But please know that what you do matters.

To the animals, to their families, to your colleagues and to this little clinic of ours.

Today is about celebrating YOU. The hands that comfort, the hearts that care, and the people who make our clinic what it is.

Meet Luna — our beautiful 60kg gentle giant and the much-loved girl of our Practice Manager, Nikki. ❤️

A few weeks ago, Luna was brought into our clinic after suffering a very traumatic injury at home, resulting in significant injuries and extensive internal damage. It was a confronting and incredibly worrying time for Nikki, her family and our entire team.

What followed was a long and challenging road to recovery. Over the past few weeks, our team has worked tirelessly to care for Luna and give her the very best chance of getting through this.

After surgery, many nights in hospital, intensive care, countless treatments and plenty of love and cuddles, Luna slowly began to fight her way back. 🥹🐾

And now… LUNA HAS MADE IT THROUGH! 🎉❤️

Watching this beautiful girl go from being so incredibly unwell to seeing her back on her feet has been an emotional journey for everyone. Her strength and resilience have amazed us every step of the way.

For Nikki, this has been an especially difficult and emotional few weeks. We are so incredibly grateful to see Luna come out the other side and continue her recovery at home. ❤️

You are one very loved girl, and we are all so proud of you. 🥰

🐾💉 PUPPY VACCINATIONS ARE SO IMPORTANT! 💉🐾

Meet Butch! 🥰 This adorable little guy recently came in to visit our team for his puppy vaccinations — and he was such a good boy! 🐶❤️

Puppy vaccinations are an important part of giving your new best friend a healthy start in life. Vaccinations help protect puppies against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases, including parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis and kennel cough.

🐾 Why are puppy vaccinations important?
✔️ Help protect your puppy from serious infectious diseases
✔️ Help build their immune system while they are young
✔️ Reduce the spread of preventable diseases to other dogs
✔️ Keep your puppy safer as they start exploring the big wide world!

Puppies need a series of vaccinations while they are young because their immune systems are still developing. Your vet will recommend the vaccination schedule that is right for your puppy.

And remember — those first few vet visits aren't just about vaccinations! They're a great opportunity for us to check your puppy's growth and development, answer your questions and make sure they're getting the best start possible. 🥰

A couple of months ago, this adorable little pup came to visit us, and we asked our wonderful followers to help us come up with the perfect name for him! 🥰

Well… the votes are in, he’s grown A LOT, and we can finally introduce you to Dusty! 🤎🐶

It’s hard to believe how much he’s grown since we first met him! From a tiny puppy to this big handsome boy, Dusty has certainly been keeping us smiling every time he comes in to visit. 🥹💕

We thought it was only fair to give you all an update and let you know which name he ended up with!
