The Proserpine Vet Surgery family extends far beyond our clinic walls. It includes the families of our staff, and the clients who, over many years, become cherished friends.

Today, our hearts are broken following the tragic passing of Brayden McDonald.

Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with Tiffany, Troy, Tegan, and all of Brayden's family and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.

There are no words that can ease a loss like this. Please know that you are surrounded by love, support, and a community that is grieving alongside you.

As the wet season winds down in the Whitsundays, we’re already seeing an increase in tick paralysis cases — and unfortunately, this happens every year. 🌧️➡️☀️

Paralysis ticks thrive in warm, humid conditions, making this time of year especially high risk. While cases tend to spike during and after the wet season, ticks are a year-round threat in our region.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that indoor pets are safe from ticks. Ticks can easily hitch a ride inside on people, clothing, other pets, or even through the backyard — meaning indoor-only animals can still be exposed.

Tick paralysis can progress quickly and become life-threatening, so prevention is always safer (and cheaper) than treatment.

✔️ Check your pets daily
✔️ Keep grass and gardens tidy
✔️ Speak with your vet about the best tick prevention for your pet
✔️ Ensure ALL pets — even indoor pets — are kept up to date with vet-recommended tick prevention

If you notice any signs such as weakness, wobbliness, vomiting, a change in bark/meow, difficulty breathing, or collapse, seek veterinary attention immediately.

This past May Day long weekend, our team headed away for our annual Cape Gloucester weekend — a special tradition where we come together to celebrate our incredible team and all of their hard work throughout the year. ❤️

Most importantly, this weekend is always in honor of our beautiful Late Billye. Cape Gloucester was Billye’s favourite place, and every year we return here to remember her, share stories, laugh together, and keep her spirit close to our hearts. 🐾

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Cape Gloucester for once again making our stay so special. Your amazing staff, delicious food, and beautiful atmosphere make this place feel like a home away from home, and we’re so grateful for your hospitality every year.

We’re incredibly lucky to have such an amazing team and to continue creating special memories together in a place that means so much to us all. 💙

🐾 FOUND CAT 🐾

This lovely female cat was brought into the clinic by some kind Good Samaritans. She is wearing a collar, and we have attempted to contact the number attached but have had no answer at this stage.
Found: Sebel apartments, Airlie beach

Unfortunately, she is not microchipped.

To help us ensure she goes home to the correct owner, we will require identification of her collar and tag details.
