Tolleron Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever breeder

Tolleron Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever breeder Breeders of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers located in Port Macquarie NSW Australia. Our names are Tina & David between us we are the Tolleron NSDTR Kennel.

TOLLERON
Dogs NSW Registered Breeders of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. Home of the fun, agile and versatile N S D T R (Toller)

We would love to introduce you to the NSDTR or “Toller” as they are better known. Tollers are still a fairly rare breed within Australia, although they are hugely popular as a breed due to their wonderful natures and versatile abilities, their low maintenance coats

& their great medium size, Tollers are roughly the same size as Border Collies & Aussie Shepard's. David & I are passionate about breeding the best Tollers possible & our dogs are our life! David is currently Chief Agility instructor at Port Macquarie Kennel & obedience dog club & has achieved master level success within Agility, Titling many dogs to National Championship & Masters level Agility and runs Agility seminars and training weekends for various clubs & groups. I (Tina) am also Chief Obedience Instructor & currently run the Beginners Obedience training program at the PMQ Dog club, am also a qualified dog bahaviouralist and have titled our Tollers in Breed show, Obedience, Agility & also Rally O so between us we have a wealth of knowledge about many aspects of dog breeding, training & behaviour & utalise all this knowledge in raising great Toller puppies! We are dedicated & committed to producing Toller puppies to the very highest standards possible & our mission is to produce Tollers not only that are exceptionally well bred & have great natures, but also Tollers that will be a joy to have as part of your family & that you will be proud to own. We ensure this by extensively breed DNA health testing and Hip and Elbow scoring our Tollers. We also invest a lot of time & energy in raising all our litters with the the “Puppy Culture” puppy raising program which is similar to the one used by the Guide Dog Association and is designed to produce puppies that love people and who are a pleasure to own, who are super smart & love to learn & train, are well balanced, confident & self-assured little individuals. We currently have 6 Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. 5 girls & 1 boy. Our USA imported stud boy: Champion Stargazers Red Hot Chilli Pepper “Trapper”. Has an exceptionally beautiful, happy & compliant nature & is passing his wonderful nature onto all his puppies. Our girls are: RN.JD. AAD Tolleron Tiramisu “Tira” who is super smart, affectionate & funny & also the mother of all our younger girls: Our little fire cracker JADE, KARLY who is currently in training as an Agility dog, HONEY who already has her RN Obedience Title & ELLA who is a MAD retriever. All our girls have lovely sweet natures, all love to train & learn & all typically love water & retrieving! ABOUT TOLLERS: Bred to assist Duck & other Game bird hunters by attracting & luring the birds to shore by first frolicking on the shore line enticing birds to come within easy range & then retrieve the Game in or out of the water to the Hunter. They are medium in size, have a low maintenance water resistant coat that only requires a quick brush through about once a or twice a week and adjust well to multi species pet households. They also are one of the most appealing looking dog breeds around (Not that we are in any way biased here at Tolleron!) & we are in no doubt that its that big infectious Toller grin that has a lot to do with their appeal! The Toller has a great sense of humour and fun and they are smart as a whip. They are super sensitive to their owners feelings & moods & wear their hearts on their sleeves (Or Paws), you are rarely in doubt about how they are feeling in the moment. They are a VERY active HIGH energy breed so be warned! But also love to just chill with you & hang out on the couch. They do need a lot of exercise particularly when they are young & if they don’t get it they can become naughty & destructive by inventing their own games that can involve the destruction of the things you love if they are given no other outlet to channel all that energy. They love to be involved in any activity that engages either their minds or bodies. They are an extremely agile, intelligent breed that enjoys being active, whether it is chasing a ball in the back yard (Most Tollers just live to retrieve) or being involved in any dog related activities. Tollers are easy to train, they love to swim, compete or preform and have excelled in most of the dog related disciplines i.e. Obedience and Agility trials, fly ball and Frisbee comps as well as making outstanding dancing with dog’s competitors and trick training dogs too. In fact there really is not much that a Toller would not be willing to do for you as long you are willing to take the time to teach them, they are very fast learners but do get bored easily with a lot of repetitive training. They do respond exceptionally well to positive reinforcement training methods. You absolutely do need to be willing to invest time & energy into Obedience training this breed & enrolling in a puppy pre-school course with your new Toller puppy at the very least along with investigating positive training methods before you purchase a puppy is a necessity. In fact, you will find the more training you do with them by engaging both their brains & bodies the better behaved they will be. Keep training sessions short & fun for them & you will end up with dog that loves to listen to you & to do what you ask it to. Although they can sometimes be reserved with strangers or new experiences, making sure that you expose your puppy to a regular variety of people, experiences & places in their first year of life with lots of safe positive socialisation opportunities while they are still a puppy & young adult will ensure your Toller grows up to be a happy well adjusted, confident dog. Continuing lots of exposure to different people, places & other dogs after you take your new Toller puppy home is essential to their mental & physical wellbeing. They are a very loving family orientated breed that if raised around or get lots of exposure to children of all ages, make great kids companions as they tend to be gentle, loving & fun but they do require attention so don’t consider adopting a Toller if you don’t feel that you would have the time and energy to interact with them closely on a daily basis. If you are looking for a dog that is super smart, has a great sense of humor, is in tune with your feelings, that loves to train & be active, that is beautiful, athletic & is a great family dog with very few health issues then this may be the breed for you!

Another update thanks to Gemma & family in WA.

Hi Tina and David

I just saw an update on one of your past pups and was reminded we were long overdue in sharing with you how our own Tolleron pup has been settling in.

We are all in love with Ricky Baker and he is at the centre of our family! Parvo is rife where we live so apart from visits to friends’ (and their dogs!) houses, we had to keep him in backyards until he’d had all his vaccinations. In that time we’ve had a trainer come and work with us weekly where he is a star student (we may be a little bias).

Now that he’s allowed out, he’s living his best life! He loves the beach (is still not sure about the waves, but loves the seaweed!) and playing with all the dogs at the dog park (including some pups the same age as him). He came camping with us the other week which really tuckered him out. We’ve taken him on a few long distances in the car and he is a perfect travelling companion.

We can’t thank you enough for him!

Gemma

Thanks Lachie & Justine for the update on Moo. One of the puppies from our last litters:

Good morning Tina, I hope you are doing great!

Moo has been the little sunshine of our days, she loves car trips, going to the beach, loves other dogs more than she loves other people (and she adores getting pats from everyone). Little humans are scaring her a bit but when they stop screaming she is very gentle with them and let them touch her even roughly.
We did our first car camping during the long weekend and she had the best time ever!

Thank you so much for all the work you put into these little balls of joy, it really shows everyday!

A few photos from the past couple of weeks

Huge Congratulations to Gabi & Mango on achieving their Novice Scent work Title!
Hey Tina and David, Hope you guys are well!

Just wanted to let you know that we had 2 scentwork trials this weekend and we got Mango's Scentwork Novice title!! So proud of Mango and how hard we've worked to get here, and very keen to get started with advanced trials soon 😊

We've also given dock diving a try (though with less success 😂) and hoping to get started with agility classes later this year, as she absolutely loves doing it at home.
All the best! Gabi and Mango 🧡

Thanks Annaliese for the lovely update:
Hi Tina & David,

I thought you’d love an update on how beautiful Sienna is going. It’s been almost a year now since we brought her home and she settled into our little family quite quickly. She is super loving and has definitely attached herself me (Anneliese). She and her brother Yoda have bonded well, and she has even enticed him to enjoy playing with tennis balls and getting brushed! This week I have been on Duke of Edinburgh camp with my students and for the last night of camping, I brought her to the campsite to greet the students as they arrived following their 13km hike to move sites. The girls absolutely adored her and she was the most perfect therapy dog, lifting their spirits and easing their woes after a big 3 days. I’m now even considering enrolling her into a therapy dog training course!

Here are some photos…
1. Sienna & Yoda at a professional photoshoot not long after we got her
2&3. Sienna & Yoda at our engagement photo shoot in January
4. Sienna lapping up the attention on camp

In early May, Glen & I get married, with the dogs involved of course. I’ll be sure to send you some photos of my bridesdog when they come!

Best regards,
Anneliese

Love getting these puppy updates! Thanks Sania for sharing your Tolleron puppy update & Congratulations on Goose graduating puppy preschool.
Hi Tina,
I hope you've been well!

Just an update that Goose is doing well and that I received his pedigree certificate.

He is ridiculously smart. He learns tricks so quickly that I find myself researching new ones every few days and he recently graduated from Puppy Preschool!

I absolutely adore him. He is the sweetest boy. Thank you for trusting me with him.

Kind Regards,

Sania

Another sweet update from our latest litters of puppies.................
Thanks Carroll-Ann & John so lovely to hear that you are happy with your little Tolleron girl Bindi🥰

Hello Tina and David !
We hope all is well with you and that you might be enjoying a quieter life with fewer puppies around !

Thank you for matching us with the beautiful Bindi!

She is so smart, so energetic, obedient, affectionate, and a joy to have in our lives...

We believe that the training, stimulation and care that you gave her has attributed greatly to the way she behaves... Thank-you!!

Bindi loves her life, food, us, the beach and her garden.

Bindi sleeps through the night now, in the laundry, on cool tiles. It has been hot here...
As soon as Bindi hears our door open in the the morning, she comes bounding down the hallway to lick us to death before she is made a puppachino!!!

We adore her and can assure you that she is much loved and very well looked after!

Bindi is my treasure...

Thank you for this beautiful puppy.....
Kindest regards
Carroll-Ann and John....

Thanks Michael & Edwina for the update on how little Tolly is doing:
Dear Tina and David Thank you so much for raising Tolly so beautifully. She's settled in really well and has such a sweet personality.

She is so gentle when meeting people, and also loves when it's play time (which is when her cheeky, boisterous side comes out)!!

So far, she has also been very calm around our resident wildlife which is great. We are definitely impressed how quickly Tolly learns new things, and how she's been able to walk so well on a leash so early.

We're so happy to have her as part of our family!!

Many thanks,
Michael and Edwina

Thanks Dixie & Mitch for the update & pictures of how Alfie is settling in SA.
Hi Tina and Paul,
Just updating you on Alfie , who is having a great time as a new member of the family. He loves to play and hang around outside and has also mastered lots of tricks like sit, shake, drop and "go to your crate".
We love Alfie and are grateful for his good upbringing. He's in week three of puppy pre school and has met lots of vaccinated dogs that we have in our circle, he especially loves his cousins Reggie and Poppy, two cairn terriers who he hangs out with for a play most days. 🙂

Thanks,
Dixie and Mitch

Thanks Angelique, Another update from our latest batch of puppies:
Hi Tina & David!

I wanted to give you an update on Cooper. He’s been an absolute angel, sleeps through the night and picking up tricks well. We’re still working on the toilet training but he’s been great and we are utterly obsessed.

I thought I’d share some photos and thank you guys again for our beautiful little guy.
Kindest,
Angelique & Mark

So great to hear how another of our puppy buyers are enjoying their Tolleron Puppy buying experience:
Hi Tina,
Bronte seems to be settling in well – she’s very easy to settle in her crate overnight. You did a good job with toilet training her – we have only had 2 wee accidents inside the house so far, thankfully all on the tiles. She takes herself outside to wee/poo most of the time with no prompting. She is great with the clicker – she has mastered sitting, come and lie down. She was a bit slow to eat/didn’t finish her meals at first but I think that was because she had a lot of sights and smells to explore – she now eats her meals happily, although will take breaks in between to check what everyone is doing. She is great at ‘inspecting’ what everyone is doing and giving her licks of approval – especially when unpacking the dishwasher!!

She has been a hit with the kids – all the kid’s friends adore her, and she has been great with the socialisation done so far, doing all the school pickups. She certainly knows how to take pats and treats well 😊 She does bite a fair bit but can be redirected with a toy most time.

She has been to the vet already, had another vaccination, and they said she was in good health. She has had the flea/tick/worming chew too. We signed up with that pet insurance too – thank you.
Thank you again for allowing Bronte to become a part of our family. She is already a much-loved member of the family. Have sent you some pics too.
Steph, Chris, Izzie, Gigi and Bronte 🐾
