A little dose of cuteness for your feed 🐐🥹

We recently had these gorgeous kids in for disbudding, and it’s safe to say they brightened everyone’s day!

Tiny, adorable… and VERY good at making sure the whole clinic knew they were here 😂

There were plenty of cuddles to go around before they headed home 💕

🐍 They’re already out! 🐍

It might technically still be winter, but with the warmer weather we’ve already seen our first snake bite of the season. 😵‍💫🫣

On Friday we treated a dog following a snake bite. Thanks to their owner getting them in quickly, he’s doing really well.

Just a little reminder to be extra vigilant as the days start warming up, particularly when walking dogs through long grass, around sheds, paddocks and bushy areas.

If you suspect your pet may have been bitten by a snake, don’t wait for symptoms to worsen. Contact us straight away.

Apparently the snakes didn’t get the memo that spring hasn’t started yet 🐍

A little note from our team 💙

We just wanted to ask for a little extra patience and understanding from our valued clients at the moment.

Veterinary staffing across Port Lincoln is pretty stretched right now. With fewer vets available at the other local clinic, we are seeing a noticeable increase in overflow appointments, urgent cases and emergencies coming our way. Our own team is also running short on vets and nurses, so things can get very busy, very quickly.

At the same time, we are continuing to provide our usual small and large animal care, as well as a 24/7 emergency service across the EP. We feel strongly about continuing to provide that service, but it’s worth remembering that the vet seeing your emergency late at night is often the same vet who has already worked all day and will be back again the next morning.

We will always prioritise genuinely urgent and life-threatening cases, which unfortunately sometimes means routine appointments run late, non-urgent appointments need to wait, phone calls take longer to return, or we simply cannot fit everything into the day.

Our vets, nurses and reception team are working incredibly hard at the moment, and we are very grateful for everyone who treats them with kindness and patience.

We’re trying our best. We promise. 💙

Calling all puppies between 8 and 16 weeks ( or close to!!) 😍

The fabulous Emma Coates at Vets on Eyre has another puppy school beginning on Wed August 19th at 6pm and has a few spots available!

“But my dog’s natural diet of bones will keep their teeth perfect…” 😅

We came across this interesting post showing the teeth of an older wild wolf.

After years of crushing bones and taking down prey, his teeth are severely worn, with many broken or missing altogether.

It’s a good reminder that “natural” doesn’t always mean “better” when it comes to dental health. Wild animals aren’t aiming for perfect teeth into old age- they’re simply surviving.

Chewing appropriate dental products can absolutely have benefits, but bones (especially hard weight-bearing bones) can also cause fractured teeth and excessive wear.

Every pet is different, so if you’re unsure what’s best for your dog’s teeth, have a chat with your vet. We’d much rather help prevent dental problems than fix a broken tooth later! 🦷🐶

🐶🩸 Dogs can donate blood too ‼️🚨

Despite our last post, we haven’t had any suitable dogs put their paws up just yet.

We’re looking for large breed dogs (30 kg+) to join our blood donor team.

We’re especially keen to hear from owners of Greyhounds, Staghounds, Great Danes, Rottweilers, Labradors, German Shepherds and other large breeds.

To be eligible, dogs should be:
• 1–7 years old
• Healthy
• Fully vaccinated
• Up to date with flea, tick and worming
• Calm and happy being handled

How does it work?
If an emergency patient needs a blood transfusion, we’ll contact our donor dogs to see who’s available. If you can bring your dog in, fantastic. If not, no worries at all—we’ll simply call the next donor.

A single blood donation can help save another dog’s life in an emergency. ❤️

‼️ “Pet safe” bait doesn’t mean safe if your pet eats it ‼️

We’ve noticed more rat and snail baits being marketed as “pet safe” or “safer for pets.”

The reality is that none should be considered safe for dogs or cats to eat.

Some products may have a lower risk than others, but they will still cause serious illness if eaten.

If you think your pet has eaten any rat or snail bait, contact your vet immediately. Don’t wait for symptoms to develop.
