With this season’s prolific grass growth, extra care is needed—grass seeds can get trapped between a pet’s toes and even work their way inside the ears, leading to irritation, discomfort, and potential infection. If you suspect seeds, book an appointment with Port Augusta Veterinary Services for prompt checks and removal. Your pet may require a sedation as seed removal can cause discomfort when trapped in sensitive areas.

In honour of National Pet Memorial Day, we’re thinking of every pet who has left pawprints in our hearts. If you have a special memory or a photo of a pet you miss, we would love to see it. Share it in the comments or message us, and tell us what made them so special. You’re not alone—our community is here with you.

Parvo is tough, contagious, and can be picked up from contaminated surfaces or environments. Because of how easily it spreads, puppies are especially vulnerable before they are fully vaccinated. The full course of vaccinations helps build strong immunity, but it only protects once your puppy has completed all recommended doses. Until then, avoid dog parks, high-traffic areas, and contact with unvaccinated or unknown-status dogs. Isolation is a key part of prevention.

Did you know: the world‚ smallest known species of bird is the bee hummingbird, a species native to the island of Cuba. Adults are roughly the size of‚ you guessed it‚ a bumblebee, and their eggs are the size of a coffee bean!

A friendly reminder about appointments.

We kindly ask that if you’re unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer the appointment to another patient.

This week alone, we’ve had 7 appointments where clients have not attended and haven’t contacted us to cancel. This can have a significant impact, particularly when we’ve had to turn other patients away because we are fully booked.

We completely understand that plans can change and unexpected things happen — we simply ask that you give us as much notice as possible if you can no longer make your appointment. Even a quick phone call is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for helping us make the most of our appointment times and ensuring we can care for as many patients as possible.
