🐾 Dachshund Owners: Know the Signs of IVDD 🐾

Did you know Dachshunds are one of the breeds most commonly affected by Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)?

IVDD occurs when the discs between the vertebrae of the spine become damaged or rupture, putting pressure on the spinal cord. This can cause pain, weakness, difficulty walking, and in severe cases, paralysis.

⚠️ Signs to watch for:
• Reluctance to jump or use stairs
• Crying out when picked up or touched
• A hunched back or tense posture
• Weakness or wobbliness in the legs
• Dragging the feet or difficulty walking

While IVDD can’t always be prevented, maintaining a healthy weight, using ramps where possible, and avoiding excessive jumping can help reduce the risk.

Treatment for IVDD can sometimes involve advanced imaging, specialist referral, surgery, and ongoing rehabilitation. Pet insurance taken out before any problems arise can help provide peace of mind and reduce the financial stress if your pet ever requires extensive treatment.

⚠️ PARVO DETECTED IN THE REGION ⚠️

Canine Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease that can spread rapidly, especially in young or unvaccinated dogs.

Common signs include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, loss of appetite and dehydration. Parvo can survive in the environment for long periods, making prevention extremely important.

Please ensure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date and avoid high-risk areas such as dog parks or shared public spaces if your puppy is not fully vaccinated.
