We are in desperate need of feline blood donors for our expanding blood donor program!� 🐱

Cats have three main blood types: A, B and AB, and where possible it’s important that the donor and recipient are the same blood type which makes finding compatible donors even harder.

During your cat’s donation, they will receive a FREE full clinical assessment, FREE blood tests to determine health status, FREE treats, LOTS of loving and a $100 PetBarn voucher!

�We understand that a visit to the vet can be stressful for a lot of animals, especially cats, and as we acknowledge that this is a voluntary procedure, reducing stress and fear in our donors is of the utmost importance.

If you have a furry feline friend at home that fits the criteria below, please reach out to our reception team so we can organise a time for your cat to come in, meet the team and get assessed for our blood donor program.

Feline blood donors must:
- Be up to date with vaccinations.
- Be up to date with intestinal worm prevention.
- Weigh more than 4.5kg (ideally not overweight).
- Be between 1yr - 8yrs old.
- Not being treated with any medications.
- No life long illnesses.
- Has not received a blood transfusion.
- Preferably lives indoors only.
- Preferably a calm temperament.

🐾 What an incredible day at Canberra Paws Walk!

ARH Canberra was proud to be a major sponsor of the very first Canberra Paws Walk alongside Petbarn, RSPCA ACT , VetVision and several amazing local organisations from across the Canberra community.

More than 1,000 attendees, hundreds of dogs, packed stalls, giveaways, our emergency ambulance on display, and nonstop engagement throughout the day, the atmosphere was absolutely incredible. It was fantastic to see so many families, pet lovers, rescue groups, and community organisations come together in support of animal welfare.

A huge thank you to our ARH team, Petbarn team, VetVision, RSPCA ACT, volunteers, and everyone who stopped by to say hello, spin the wheel, grab a showbag, and support the event.

We are so excited to be joining RSPCA ACT, Petbarn, VetVision and the wider Canberra community for an amazing day by the lake, all coming together for animals.

Whether you’re bringing your dog along for the walk, visiting the market stalls, checking out the doggy play zone, or just coming down to support a great cause, it’s going to be a fantastic day out.

Come and find the ARH Canberra team on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. We’ll be there with our friends from Petbarn and VetVision, with goodies, friendly faces, and plenty of pet health tips.

Puffy’s Journey 🐾

Earlier this year, we met Puffy, the sweetest white fluffball with a very brave heart. Puffy was rushed to our specialist surgical team after a frightening 24 hours, when he had suddenly lost the use of his back legs and was struggling to use his left front leg.

Upon investigation, the neurological examination suggested some form of spinal cord lesion, such as a herniated disc or embolism. Using CT and MRI scans, we located the culprit: a lesion in his neck. However, this wasn't a typical "slipped disc." Puffy had suffered an Ischaemic Myelopathy, commonly known as an FCE (Fibrocartilaginous Embolism).

In many neurological cases, surgery is the answer. But for an FCE, which is essentially a "stroke" in the spinal cord, the best medicine isn't always the scalpel; it’s specialised rehabilitation. Since there was no specific "surgical point" to fix, our team shifted focus to a custom recovery plan.

Puffy moved from our surgical wing to our Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and Medicine Team (OMAR). Through tailored exercises and a lot of hard work, Puffy has been thriving! We are so proud to announce that this resilient boy is officially back on his feet and well on the road to recovery!
