Yasmine joins us after school and plays a vital role behind the scenes—keeping our hospital clean, organised, and running smoothly. Always ready to lend a hand, she supports our nursing team with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. She’s truly a quiet achiever and an important part of our team.

Currently studying her Certificate II in Animal Care, Yasmine is passionate about building a future in the veterinary industry. She hopes to continue her journey with a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, with the ultimate goal of completing a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University.

We’re proud to be part of her journey and can’t wait to see what she achieves.

Meet Emilie, one of our dedicated veterinary nurses at Capital Veterinary Hospital.

Emilie first joined CVH for placement in 2024 and has since become a valued member of our nursing team. She holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and is currently studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, bringing both knowledge and enthusiasm to her role.

With a strong focus on hospital patient care, Emilie is known for her clear communication with clients and her thorough, detail-oriented approach—particularly when it comes to surgery. She is passionate about supporting both pets and their people, and finds it especially rewarding to see patients recover and clients leave with a smile.

Outside of the hospital, Emilie enjoys spending time with her Cavoodle, Coco, as well as relaxing with books, fictional media, karate, and arts and crafts.

Sometimes it's just a bit of a check over, a good scratch, and a very happy little face by the end of it. Our nursing team spends a lot of time making sure our patients feel safe on the table — because a calm pet makes for better care, every single time.

Meet Amanda — our Head of Client Relations 🐾

With 17 years in veterinary practice, a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and a Diploma of Animal Technology, Amanda brings deep experience and a calm, organised presence to our busy hospital.

She describes her role as "air traffic control" — coordinating our scheduler, communicating with clients, and supporting the team so we can deliver gold standard care to every patient. Amanda has a special interest in Fear Free Veterinary Care and in supporting clients and their pets through palliative and end-of-life care.

What she loves most is witnessing the unique bonds between clients and their pets. Her goal is simple: for every client to feel comfortable, heard, and confident entrusting their pet's care to us.

In 2014, Amanda received a grant to travel and work at an elephant sanctuary vet clinic in Thailand — an experience that deepened her commitment to animal welfare even further.

At home, she shares life with Pretzel, her 6-year-old greyhound. Outside of work you'll find her cross stitching, gardening, scuba diving, and spending time outdoors.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every single vet, nurse and receptionist. I truly cannot put into words how grateful I am for the care, compassion and kindness you showed both my dog and me.
The level of care you provided went far beyond what anyone could ever expect. You didn't just treat my dog—you genuinely cared about her. When she was frightened and crying, you took the time to comfort her instead of simply carrying on with your day. A very special thank you to Amanda, who would sing to her whenever she became stressed. That small act of kindness meant more to me than you'll ever know, and it showed just how much love and compassion she has for the animals in her care.
I also want to apologise for being such an anxious owner. I know I wasn't the easiest person to deal with. I sent countless emails, worried constantly, asked endless questions, and probably caused more than my fair share of stress. Yet not once did anyone make me feel like I was a burden. Instead, every single member of the team treated me with patience, understanding and reassurance.
You didn't just accommodate my dog—you accommodated me as well. You understood my anxiety, answered my concerns, and always went out of your way to make sure both of us felt supported. That level of empathy is incredibly rare.
I cannot recommend this clinic highly enough. Their knowledge and ability to solve problems is exceptional, but what truly sets them apart is the genuine love they have for both their patients and the people who love them. They care for animals with incredible attention and compassion, while also recognising how emotional these situations can be for owners.
Thank you for going above and beyond in every possible way. I will always be grateful for everything you did for us, and I will never forget the kindness, patience and dedication you showed during one of the most stressful times of our lives.

From Hong Kong to Malaysia, Fiji, NZ and now to Canberra 🌏

Dr Heidi Hon has spent over a decade caring for animals across four countries — and we're thrilled she's chosen CVH as her next home. A Massey University graduate with special interests in soft tissue surgery, acupuncture and diagnostic ultrasound, Dr Heidi is known for her calm, compassionate approach with every pet who walks through our doors.

When she's not in the clinic, she's chasing new walking trails with her rescue pup, Dog Mama, hiking, or upside down at aerial yoga. She brings that same energy and heart to every patient she treats.

Ever wondered what joint surgery for pets actually looks like? 👀

This week our team performed a shoulder arthroscopy to remove an OCD lesion — using a tiny camera and instruments instead of a large incision, meaning less pain and a quicker recovery for our patient.

Dr Ali Ashrafi and vet tech Claudia made it look easy (it's not!).

Growing up in a family of veterinarians in Nepal, Sushmita’s passion for animals was sparked from a very young age. She qualified as a veterinarian in Nepal in 2020 and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Biotechnology, along with specialised training in animal surgery and health practice. Soft tissue surgery remains a particular passion of hers.

Now proudly based in Australia, Sushmita is a dedicated member of our nursing team, where she combines her strong veterinary foundation with hands-on nursing care. Her background in surgery and biotechnology allows her to bring a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to patient care, particularly when supporting surgical procedures and recovery.

When she’s not caring for her patients, you’ll find Sushmita catching the latest films or planning her next travel adventure.
