🐾 Mats are more than just a tangle… they can be painful. ❤️
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is, “It’s only a few knots.” Unfortunately, what we see on the surface isn’t always what’s happening underneath.
Mats can tighten against the skin, trapping dirt, moisture and bacteria while constantly pulling every time your dog moves. In severe cases, they can cause bruising, sores and infections.
That’s why regular brushing is so important—but it needs to be done all the way to the skin, not just over the top of the coat. This technique is called line brushing, and it’s the best way to prevent painful matting before it starts.
Sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, a coat becomes too tightly matted. At that point, brushing or dematting can be extremely painful and isn’t always the kindest option.
💛 A shave down is never about taking the easy way out.
It’s about relieving pain, protecting the skin and giving your dog a fresh, healthy start.
As a groomer, my promise is simple:
🐶 I’ll always assess your dog’s coat honestly.
🐶 I’ll explain your options.
🐶 And I’ll always recommend what’s best for your dog’s comfort and welfare—even if that means starting over with a shorter clip.
Healthy coats don’t happen by accident—they happen with regular maintenance, good brushing habits and routine grooming.
If you’re ever unsure whether you’re brushing correctly, I’m always happy to show you. 😊
