Your appointment starts at reception with the paperwork and the consent form. One of our nurses takes you through: with a few questions about what's been going on at home, a quick check of heart rate and breathing, and a look at the referral your vet sent us.

After that your pet comes through with us for the scan, and we'll message you once they're ready! 🐾

Sometimes it's about adapting to our patients!
Tori came to see us for an echocardiogram and was 57kg worth of sweetness 😍 Although she was a bit too big for the echo table, she was so patient and gentle during her ultrasound! ❤️

HAPPY VET NURSE DAY ❤️ A big thankyou to all of the PAUS nurses, from reception to out the back and in the scanning rooms. Some of our patients come to us quite unwell and we are so lucky to have nurses that pour love and care into each and every animal we see.

Why do we clip the belly for abdominal ultrasounds?

For a scan to work, the probe has to sit in direct contact with the skin. Even a thin layer of hair turns the picture into static, and a blurry image isn't much use to anyone.

So the area gets a quick clip, then gel to fill any gaps left behind. It takes a couple of minutes and most patients don't mind it at all, it feels like being brushed. The coat grows back on its own, so there's nothing to do at home.

Your vet gets a clear scan, and your dog goes home with a slightly breezy tummy! 😝
