Meet Levi 🐶🍇 a young kelpie brought into our care this morning after ingesting grapes. Grapes and raisins are known to be toxic to dogs and can potentially lead to acute kidney injury—even when only small amounts are eaten.

Levi’s owners acted quickly and brought him in for emergency treatment, which made an important difference. He was given an injection to make him vomit before the grapes could cause any harm and he should make a full recovery ❤️‍🩹

We share Levi’s case as a reminder: if a dog ingests grapes or raisins, do not wait for symptoms to appear. Seek immediate veterinary attention.

Exciting news for the Mandurah region! A brand new 24-7 emergency vet hospital from the team behind Port City is coming soon! 🐶🏪🐱

Meet Dr Sam J, Dr Jackie and Dr Sam B - The team behind Mandurah’s newest 24-hour emergency vet hospital! (opening soon!) 🐶🐾🐱🏪

Dr Jackie Robb brings a strong background in emergency medicine, surgery and hospital leadership, having managed a busy emergency hospital for the past eight years. Originally beginning her career in infectious disease research before completing veterinary studies at Murdoch University, Jackie has also completed further qualifications in Emergency and Critical Care through the University of Melbourne.

Dr Sam Jameson has spent years working in one of Perth’s leading emergency veterinary centres after completing a dedicated Emergency and Critical Care internship. With a passion for fast-paced emergency medicine and ongoing advanced training in critical care, Sam is known for his calm, compassionate approach to both patients and their families.

Dr Sam Burke has worked across small animal practice and emergency medicine for nearly two decades. After graduating from Murdoch University in 2007, he owned and operated a successful small animal hospital in Sydney for seven years before returning to Perth to focus on emergency and critical care medicine.

Jackie, Sam and Sam are also the team behind Port City Emergency Vets — the well-established emergency vet hospital caring for pets across Fremantle and surrounding communities. Through Port City, they have built a reputation for experienced emergency care, compassionate support and a strong commitment to both pets and their owners during some of their most stressful moments.

Together, they share a vision of creating a trusted, community-focused emergency hospital for Mandurah — delivering experienced, compassionate care whenever pets need it most. 🩺

🏥 Just like in human healthcare, our pets sometimes need blood donations to help treat a range of urgent and life-threatening medical conditions.

The need for blood donors is ongoing, and we’re currently looking for more dogs who may be suitable to help save lives, just like Bertie the poodle did today! ❤️‍🩹

If you think your pet could become a donor, visit our website for more information or email us - [email protected] 🫶🏻

🏥🐶🩺Today (the last Saturday in April annually) is World Veterinary Day and we are celebrating our incredible team of vets here at Port City.

They’re the ones we see step in at all hours — sometimes in the middle of the night or right in the thick of an emergency. They don’t hesitate. They listen, they act, they think on their feet, and they care deeply about every animal that comes through our doors.

We see the emotional load that comes with that responsibility — the hard conversations, the long shifts, and the cases that stay with you long after the day is done. And still, they keep showing up for the next patient with the same focus and compassion.

We’re genuinely proud to work alongside them, and grateful for the way they care for our patients like they’re their own. 🐾💙

Meet Harold 🤎🧸 Harold came to us earlier this year after being hit by a car, facing multiple traumatic injuries and needing urgent, complex care. He fought hard through surgery and recovery, and we were so proud to see him start to heal.

Not long after, Harold returned to us — this time critically unwell after accidentally swallowing a foreign object that caused a life-threatening intestinal blockage. Given his previous surgeries, this was a high-risk procedure… but once again, he showed us and his family just how strong he is.

Through every challenge, Harold remained gentle, brave, and trusting. His loving family were also extremely dedicated to his recovery and were by his side every step of the way.

Today, we’re so grateful to say he’s back home, recovering, and continuing to defy the odds.

It’s patients like Harold and his family who remind us everyday why we do what we do 🥰🐶
