Every couple of years I get to record an album with a long time muso friend, traveling sax player vocalist Anne Bavin (Sax and the Single Girl) and this is that year.
Usually we record in my studio but this time we decided to do something a little different. I've gone back to basics, like when I first started recording in 1985, with my PA speakers, a live mixing desk, a Tube compressor and a couple of mics all set up in a lounge room. But this time I'm recording digitally and not on cassette. The location is a 21 acre property in Moora. Anne gets back to WA for about 3 months at a time and while she's here this time, Moora and Kalgoorlie is her base while she travels and performs around WA. There's nothing fancy about the gear, the setup and the room. It's all about capturing her performance. We have had a few heavy trucks go by on the main road, but all and all it's been great. The suns been getting me up at about 5.17am everyday (to my families shock horror) and Anne is ready to record by about 9.30.

Time is irrelevant when you're creating so before we know it, our stomachs tell us we need to have something to eat. We started last Wed and Thursday and I'm back this week to lay down some more sax tracks.

Anne Bavin began her solo musical career as Sax and the Single Girl in mid 1993. She worked largely in country WA until 1997 when she began regular tours of the Northern Territory and North Queensland. As a quiet achiever, she records and sells albums, performs at Markets big and small, Clubs, Country Pubs, Festivals, Schools and Private Functions. With an acoustic set up she also includes Nursing Homes and Day Care Centres among her performances and still loves to go busking where she can. In her 540 plus song repertoire and with a blend of tenor sax and vocals, she has a huge variety of musical styles catering to all age groups and situations. She now covers the whole country with the exception of Tasmania. That however is only a matter of time.

Anne has been a full time musician performing around Australia consistently since 1993, which is not an easy feat. That's what I call dedication to a passion.

Her album comes out early next year and will be her 10th album. Look out for it.
