Let’s have a chat about a really hard subject, that has come up a few times over the years.

Behavioural Euthanasia

It is not about “giving up.”
It is not a failure.
It is never taken lightly.
It is one of the most difficult and misunderstood decisions a dog owner can face.

Behavioural Euthanasia may be considered when a dog poses a serious, ongoing risk to people or other animals, and when quality of life, for both the dog and those around them, cannot be safely or humanely improved, despite appropriate training, management, and professional support.

In some cases, the level of risk extends beyond the home and into the wider community. When a dog has the potential to cause significant harm, responsible ownership includes honestly assessing that risk and whether it can be reliably managed long-term. Management strategies, like secure confinement, strict handling protocols, and environmental control, can reduce risk, but they are not always failproof or sustainable for every household.

These are often dogs living in a constant state of stress, fear, or reactivity. Dogs who cannot safely exist in their environment without strict, lifelong restrictions that may still carry significant risk. In some cases, the kindest and most responsible option is to prevent further suffering, both theirs and others’.

This decision is made with care, with guidance from qualified professionals, with deep love for the dog and generally after every other rescourse has been exhausted.

If you’ve never been in this position, it can be difficult to understand. But compassion matters. Judgement does not help the dog, or the person carrying that weight.

For those who have had to make this decision:
You did not choose the easy path, you chose the responsible one. And that takes strength.

This is a space for education, empathy, and support. I am a trainer that will support my clients through every path including this one, no judgment, just love for you, your dogs and your efforts.

Another day, another training assessment.

Today I met with Zander and his amazing family. Such a clued on pup that just has the world at his paw tips.

I can't wait to see where you guys go with a little bit of guidance and support.

Everyone meet Odin and I guess me.
Warning long post:

He was placed with me in August (ish) to begin a board and train/ respite. It was then decided he needed to be rehomed as a single dog, to someone who had time and understanding on the breed and behavioural quirks. His family loved and still love him sooo much, we often see them.

I am pretty sure his ad was up for not even 48hrs before I got it taken down and decided he would be staying for good. Not saying I was the perfect home or person for him, but I was and am willing to try for this dog.

I didn't plan on getting a dog so soon, but life happens and now I had a 30ish kg growing adolescent dog on my hands that is still growing and now so much bigger.

FYI Bullys aren't you're average dog, no regrets here but damn i have learnt alot more about them now.

Odin has gone from a quiet shut down dog who was extremely fear reactive/aggressive and resource guards (resources including myself and my car), because his whole world was tipped all sorts of ways with sooo many changes all at once.

To an amazing young dog who wants to learn and please. Yes he lives a life of management and he is not the type of dog who can be left to make his own decisions, but it is one that is fulfilled and fun because of the work that has gone into him the last 8ish months.

He still has a way to go but making steps in the right direction every day.

Today sparked this post because he absolutely blew me away at the Dogs West open day. He met dogs, tried new things, tried to initiate play, got cuddles, quickly recovered from spooks and so much more, with 0 reactions. Today I sat down and looked at how far he has come and wanted to share.

For people wanting to find a trainer, or needing help with their doggos. I am not your average trainer, but one that will be honest and give you my everything to push you and your dog to your goals, if something doesn't work we will try and try again.

Odin wears a prong, ecollar and muzzle at dog events like this, not because he is dangerous but because correctly introduced all of these tools mean a positive thing for him and control and clear communication for me as his handler in a high traffic event where not everyone is watching what their dog is doing (friendly or rude) to also prevent any risk of incidents.

Not all dogs need this, nor will I recomend it but some do and that's ok.

I will be honest that I am a balanced trainer prepared to not only train you and your dog but also build you a stronger relationship.

Enjoy the photo dump from training Odin over the last few months, all of these photos have an outing, a purpose, an outcome and results behind them, some better then others but that is the training journey for ya and one that even dog trainers go on.

Everyone tells me a dog trainers dog is the best trained and well behaved, let me tell you despite ALL the work and time you can put into something a dog will make you look a fool as their favourite game.

A bit more of a business update.

Due to my business' focus shifting more towards dog training and dog nutrition and less to do with photography, I have decided to rebrand and rename my business.

Introducing ReRe's Pet Co.

The face and inspiration behind my business will still be my boy Yobi, now represented in my new logo, as he was truly the reason I found my passion in this industry.

Photography is now available on private requests. I also offer animal handling for shoots with other photographers. If you want to know more, please reach out.

All rope products are still available, and I am still supplying stock to All Things Stock. I am also now instore Tuesday - Thursday & Saturdays.

Thank you, everyone, for the support! Some more changes to come as I get my footing in running a business.

Going through my camera roll today to find a photo of Yobi for a client, but instead I found a video I made that started so much hate and drama within the dog community. So I thought why not share again 🤣.

Harnesses and Tools don't create pulling dogs, lack of training, foundation and understanding does that. You should be able to throw anything on your pet and get them going without being dragged along behind or get sent flying as they spot something in the distance.

This day I decided I needed a mental health walk through the bush, but when I arrived with a crazy excited Yobi in the back, I realised I left ALL of my gear at home except for his harness I kept in the car normal for working trips. Instead of turning around to go get my gear, I had no fear, anxiety or doubt in my boy when I put his harness on because I knew he has the understanding of my expectations, he had the foundation of loose leash and off leash walking and had the training to be the best boy around, despite being dangerously reactive in the early days.

No matter the tool, No matter the situation you should always be able to trust your bond and your training. If you don't think you have that reach out lets see how we can help you reach those goals, because I used to be in the exact spot you are now.

(Definition:
Tool - gear and assisting products used with dog training, such as slip leads, harness, e-collar, nose harness, prong, ect)

A side note: Incase you haven't figured out I am a balanced trainer, I use all areas of training and try anything and everything until we figure out what works for the dog and your family. No one style or strategy works for every dog and I will live by that!

Nothing better then coming home to find a package!

I think I deffinetly gave my rope supplier a big enlugh order to work through 😅

Still waiting on a few more things to arrive but All Things Stock will be full to the brim with halters, leadropes and more very soon!
