Where in the world is Dr Bronte?!
Dr Bronte has just returned from an incredible two week trip to the East Kimberley region in northern WA, volunteering as one of only three veterinarians with Murdoch University's "Murdoch on the ROAD" program.
After flying to Kununurra, the team travelled by road to Billiluna and Balgo, where they provided much needed veterinary care to remote communities.
Alongside a dedicated team of fifth year veterinary students, nurses and support staff, they performed 89 desexing surgeries and provided treatment to more than 100 animals over the two weeks. Programs like this improve the health and welfare of pets, support local communities, and help protect native wildlife by managing animal populations and reducing disease.
The "Murdoch on the ROAD" program has been made possible through grant funding, allowing veterinary students to gain surgical skills as well as contributing to the important work needed in these communities. Unfortunately, that government funding has now been cut, and the team is working hard to secure alternative funding so this invaluable service can continue reaching remote communities that need it most.
