They are 19 days old and cute little fatties. Especially Spiderman the darker red guy. He’s so big his eyes look teeny 😳. Mabel is doing such an amazing job. This is her last litter and she will be retiring in style.

Im a small boutique breeder, not a greeder. I don’t usually like to have more than two litters on the ground at once but the risk of not mating a girl that is a silent caller can be huge. November will be busy. Goodbye social events, time away but oh well. Kittens are so much more fun. And you can bet your bottom dollar I’m keeping a girl from this litter for Diesel to have as a girlfriend ♥️.

7 little Yodas crossed with a Teddy Bear. I love this stage, they march around like drunk pirates, throwing a biff at each other on the way.
Can you tell what colour they are? Nope, not tabby. But they look tabby? Nope, impossible. Mum is solid blue tortie and Dad is Black smoke and they have been tested. Nope, I don’t have another stud that is tabby. They are high smokes I promise, they often show tabby patterns until their adult coat comes through.
Thank goodness I learnt genetics and dna test my cats. A huge thank you to my daughter-in-law for these pictures.
If I’ve been quiet, it’s been a week, a bloody horrible week. One that made me feel like giving breeding up, kind of weak. But as all Mums know, when you have other’s relying on you, you get up and keep going. Maybe I will be able to talk about it soon, but not just yet.

So who am I? I am Jo Jones of Pirate Maine C***s.
Beware, my cats have a Motto - "Divide and Conquer Hearts".
My favourite Pirate Maine C***s quote - "Ship Happens and it will. We are Pirates”
ETHICAL BREEDER? Yes, I consider I am. Im not perfect by any means but I have breeding standards. Here they are:
DNA testing – I DNA test every breeding cat I have before I breed from them. They are tested for all known genetic conditions related to their breed. This is done with Orivet and I make the results available to people I will be placing my cats with.
HCM and Maine C***s. Maine C***s are one of many breeds that are susceptible to developing HCM. It is a medical condition that develops and they are not born with it. We know that there is a gene that makes them more susceptible and I do not breed with cats with this gene. That is why I test.
Heart Scans – Because not all genes that make them susceptible to HCM are known I scan all my breeding cats and then register the results on the Pawped International database. These are available for all to see and is an important part of keeping track of this condition.
Pedigrees – All my cats and kittens are registered with ANCAT or NZCF. They come with registered pedigrees of at least 4 generations or more. These pedigrees are registered on the Pawped international database.
Temperament - my cats are next level in your face. If you start with good temperament parents the kittens follow suit. The rest is up to socialising them and finding families that understand Mainies.
RAW Fed Cats - I feed my cats raw pet food. I'm not a fan of tins and sachets as they are packed with fillers and carbs they get enough of that in their dry Royal Canin biscuit.
In answer to many messages I get:
• No I don't have a waitlist. I manage cats not people. No, you cant pay more to be considered first (WTF!)
• How much are your kittens? Pretty much the same as other WA breeders. I suggest you ask Google or ChatGPT, its pretty accurate.
• No fuss. I dont do difficult people. Please be aware that as breeders we ALL talk to each other and alert each other of the crazies.
QUALIFICATIONS?
• Registered breeder with ANCAT Australia and NZCF New Zealand.
• NZCF Steward and Handler- completed 2025.
• G1 Pawped Course 2024. So much information about breeding ethically. I would recommend it to anyone looking at breeding.
• NZ registered Microchip Implanter.
• Breeding Mentor to Kailukicoons and Viking Maine C***s (both NZ registered). I, myself am mentored by Karen at Manacoons Maine C***s.
• Self proclaimed next level Crazy Cat lady
• Mother who raised red headed humans to maturity without killing any of them.

Here is a pic of my first stud Captain as a baby. He is still a Daddy here at Pirates but is due to retire in 2027 at the ripe old age of 3 years.

PirateMaines Liquorice Allsorts - aka Allie. Those eye were the first to open and continue to watch me wherever I am. I just love how curious she is.
I hope everyone is tucked up snuggly in this weird cold snap in WA. Great Hot Chocolate and cookie weather although Captain said a hot toddy or a rum would be better. Yeah right, get to and look after your kittens. Absent fathers! Rude!!
