I’ve just returned home from judging at my first Perth Royal Show. The Cat Section is currently being held in a new Pavilion, as the Davis one finally gave up the ghost. They talk about cats running away to the circus, but in this case it is a bright and airy marquee with air conditioning and carpeted floor! It was a great experience - cat people really are a lovely bunch. They are so encouraging of each other, and genuinely happy for other exhibitors when they win. I was very well looked after and supported - It was no easy task to pick the winners from such a quality field of cats! Thank you to the RAS cat section for inviting me to judge, to Suzanne, my steward, who was not only great at handling the cats, but always ready to share a laugh, and to Carole and Jan for being along for the ride. Below is a photo of myself with a maine c**n breeder and her beautiful boy. He is a credit to his owner, beautifully presented with great conformation and a show temperament that you can’t fault.

Bonnie is famous! The Maine C**n Cat Club have a big show in Bassendean on Sunday. Bonnie won’t be there, but lots of other beautiful cats will!

Hi everyone,

You are probably aware of the unfolding situation with the (H5N1) Avian Influenza Virus (Bird Flu) and its arrival on the shores of Western Australia.

Unfortunately, there are reports on ABC News that more dead birds are washing up on our beaches. Cats appear to be particularly susceptible to the virus, can become very ill and even die from it.
With this in mind, if you live in Western Australia, please be extra vigilant around wild birds.

Here is a link to two official WA sites with further information.

Avian influenza is an urgently notifiable infectious disease in Western Australia.

The 2026 ACF National Cat Show was held just this weekend in Adelaide with over 400 cats competing. I flew over to watch, learn and participate. Here's me Stewarding for Allan Raymond (CFA). So which State is it being held in next? In 2028 CatsWA will be hosting the ACF National Cat Show in Perth, June 10-11. It sounds a long way off at the moment but it will be here before you know it. So, if you are local, it's a must to put in your calendar!

Cat breeding can be bittersweet. There are many highlights, probably the best one being the safe arrival of kittens. However, with their arrival of new life there is the inevitable pain of saying goodbye. Yesterday, we said goodbye to our sweet Amity. She has been a part of our life for fifteen years. She was the sweetest cat. Like her father, Hagrid, she loved everybody and in her later years, she was also a very respected member of our feline household. Amity was a beautiful cat inside and out. There were always kisses available for anyone. She had the loudest snore of any cat we have ever had, and the greatest purr as well. She had only one litter of kittens, but that gave us our Zelda, which was all that we could ask. A Supreme in show at least five times, in her later years she enjoyed riding "shot gun" on our long trips to Busselton. We could not have asked for a more perfect cat. The house is too quiet without her.

Wish me luck for next weekend! Bonnie is in her first show for a year. Our naughty girl is too busy to eat, so it’s hard to keep weight on her, then last month she was given a big scratch on her chest - probably from being cheeky to one of the other cats, then she lost all the fur off the top of her paws (we think sticking them under a door), but at this moment in time she’s presentable. I just hope she behaves herself.
