Some very cute XC pics of Ze & a bit of an update from me…

It’s been a big month of working through a fractured sacrum & the added unfortunate timing of having an inflammatory arthritis flare up! I’ve been so so grateful to all my wonderful clients who have been patient with me, happy & flexible to change plans & do the heavy lifting for me (literally)!

The cons of fracturing my sacrum means that it’s going to be a slow steady build up back into riding, starting with small bursts at a time to gradually build strength & flexibility and stay pain free!

Although the pro of being forced to take the next month slow and steady is that it gives me a bit of time to resolve my inflam flare, there’s a bit going on behind the scenes to try get me back to mobile joints & no swelling. It may be a bit of trial and error and seeing what works and doesn’t!

So what’s the next few months look like for me?
Back in the gym, focusing on strength and rehab to both help me in the saddle and support my joints!

A slow steady build up back into riding, and being intentional with the things I do!

Trying to be patient with myself, as I take things day by day, and navigate the next few months of inflam treatments, gym and continuing to work with you all and your ponies!

Again a big thank you to my clients, it’s such a blessing to still be able to do my job despite all this and to be surrounded by open minded people who are so happy and supportive to be on this journey with me. You guys are the best!

❤️ Lou

Love this part of my job where I get to take the youngsters to their “firsts”, and love it even more when they thrive. It was a big ask for Ze, and he really went above and beyond all expectations! Dressage was probably the hardest phase for us at the Wally ODE, with lots going on and trying to keep his focus without fussing too much! A mix of wobbly moments & really nice ones, but overall stayed relaxed and listening for a nice 64%.

Little throw back to the ARCA Autumn Challenge - after a mid year refocus on getting Melly solid in the basics, lots more work on the flat & regular jumping lessons… The last few weeks have been fun bringing some fences back in - and she’s feeling good & confident! Yahoo!

Next weekend will be her eventing debut & after some ripper training sessions, and a super SJ lesson - I’m getting a bit excited to see how she will go! The goal, as always is calm & confidence 🙌🏽

The early mornings may have my fingers and toes numb, but the stunning sunrises we’ve been having make it so worth it… how good is this picture taken of my first lesson this morning!? 🤩

And a couple other pics of what was such a lovely day!

Youngsters and ditches can always be a bit of an unpredictable one…

I’ve well and truly had both ends of the spectrum when introducing them, I’ve had really unsure, I’ve had huge over jumpers & I’ve had not fussed - but Ze takes chill to a whole other level! The clips are it, we didn’t do any more than this at the ditches - so you’re seeing the whole process. You even get a POV shot too!

Now, while we haven’t done any formal ditches before, we have walked through plenty of random bits and bobs and drains out on the trails that stimulates a similar effect. So I had assumed he’d be okay, I just didn’t think he’d be thiiiiis chill! Gave us a good laugh & a whole lot of love for this guy 🥰

Last ride this morning before flying out tomorrow for a holiday! Yahoo!

I think I may have flicked into holiday mode early because it was all fun & a little bit of play this morning 🤩

No lessons or training sessions from now until the 18th July, and then back to normal schedule. Best of luck to my wonderful clients who have comps & my kids who are headed to state dressage Champs next weekend! Cant wait to hear about all the adventures when I’m back to it 🥰

All smiles for baby Ze’s first SJ attempt 🥰

There comes a point in every young horses journey where you take the next step, and sometimes the next step is a bit more of a leap. At this point I ask myself - have I done everything I can to prepare this horse to be able to not only cope, but thrive in the new challenge? It’s not about them being perfect, but it’s about their ability to be able to find calm in an environment that has a lot more going on than they are used to.

To me the most important thing about competing and going out is having a horse that is calm & willing. When you have that everything else comes a heck of a lot easier. Without that everything becomes a fight, an escalation of stress. The calm space is where the bond grows, the confidence excels & the fun is had!

I’ve always been highly competitive (oops, I think that comes with growing up on competitive basketball & dance), but what I’m learning is there’s something so much more powerful than winning. It’s the moment you and the horse underneath you move as a team, it’s the moment they trust you enough to save you when you make a mistake, it’s the moment you ask something hard of them and they say “okay, I’ll give it my all”.

This day Ze tried his absolute heart out, and the all the hours of patient, consistent training & challenges came together to produce a collection of moments that had me unable to wipe the grin of my face.

Peel Showman on Silver Harmony Zeus (aka baby Ze) 💙

Such a special part of my job to get to educate & train young horses - and even more special taking them to their first show! Ze is one special 4yo Gypsy x Welsh cob, he’s just got the coolest attitude. The goal is one day for him to be a kids/teen horse, so most important to me is that he had a good, confidence building experience. Not only did he absolutely step up & was a LEGEND, but he ended up with 1st place to top it all off!

As always, I love a show for putting a highlighter on where our training is going well, but also - what things need work!

Big thank you to Peel PC for hosting another wonderful run, laid back & encouraging event ❤️

Since starting Comet under saddle at the beginning of the year, I’ve been working with his wonderful owner to continue his education and help her & him transition to ridden life, guiding her in how to continue support and teach a young horse. Lucky for me I still get to jump on and continue his education where needed, and every time I do it’s such a joy! There’s something so special about starting a horses ridden journey & this guy has a huge heart that absolutely always wants to try.

Watch this space because I just know the future is bright for this guy ❤️

Well and truly into winter & some days that looks like sunrise to sunset - lucky for me both ends of the day are often the most beautiful 🥰

It’s been a big few weeks, with all these clips from the last two, client horses, lessons & making sure there’s time for the Golden Princess amongst it all! Not only has there been plenty of horsies & a couple comps, but in my own world my little sister got married, there’s been family here, there’s been baby showers & birthdays, there’s been committee meetings and quadrille rehearsals, there’s been the continuing renovation saga & keeping up with my own lessons as I work towards the goals I have!

I may be feeling slightly weary (if I’m honest!), but I wouldn’t have it any other way. What a blessing to live the life I do and be surrounded by people & horses I love ❤️
