Get excited - Paul Bunker is coming to Western Australia!

Detection for Good is pleased to host internationally renowned detection dog trainer Paul Bunker (Chiron K9) for two fabulous workshops and an exceptional bespoke experience designed to help teams level up their detection practice.

Paul is an exceptional, internationally recognised detection dog trainer and the founder of Chiron K9. He has extensive experience training detection dogs across a wide range of disciplines, and is known for his practical, thoughtful and systematic approach to detection dog training, with a focus on building dogs that can work reliably in real-world environments.

His training focuses not only on odour recognition and indication behaviour, but also on search strategy, handler decision-making and building clear communication between dog and handler.

Paul regularly teaches workshops internationally and works with handlers and organisations to develop detection dogs that are reliable, independent and effective in operational environments.

Workshops are open to working and sports teams - medical alert, conservation, search and rescue, biosecurity, quarantine, customs and operational detection roles, and centre on building exceptional detection dog teams through thoughtful training, problem solving, and great search strategy across a range of applications.

For our conservation teams we are offering a very special immersive experience with additional opportunities including family cook ups, networking activities, the option to camp onsite and join fireside* (fire risk dependent) chats, PLUS a BONUS day of peer-learning and an optional field trip with our Phytopthora teams. If you are a conservation team planning to attend, ESPECIALLY from outside WA please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/A2cWHiVoqTQKeJgf7

We are hosting TWO workshops:

The course will include:
Theory delivered via a webinar in August
Foundation training steps to be completed prior to the workshop
A two-day in-person practical workshop
Individual team feedback and guidance for follow-up training

LEVEL UP
The level up workshop is bespoke workshop tailored to the needs of the participating teams, designed to challenge participants and working teams will be selected by application to ensure a rich learning experience for all. Working teams will collaborate with Paul Bunker and Detection for Good to develop a set of training challenges that meet their needs. This may include:

Real-world search scenarios
Complex search problems
Difficult odour presentations
Troubleshooting training challenges
Search strategy and problem-solving
Team Communication.

This workshop is designed to help teams progress their training and address specific challenges in their detection work.

📍Based at DFG HQ in Mount Helena and around Mundaring.

🐾 Detector dogs go to school 🐾

🐾 Our visit to the Ravensthorpe school in partnership with Dieback Working Group was great fun! The kids had loads of incredible questions about dieback, the dogs, and how they can help look after the beautiful place they call home.

🥾 We practiced scrubbing our shoes to keep the bush safe, and remembered that we should always

🧼 Arrive Clean
🥾 Leave Clean
👀 Be mindfull in between!

🐾 We had loads of incredible positive feedback about the value of the experience.

As I always say "Detection dogs have TWO superpowers - sniffing things out, and connecting people with conservation stories" - and that was absoloutely the case here.

What a whirlwind of fun we had this week visiting Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe with the Dieback Working Group and Hopetoun Community Resource Centre! We joined storytime, met the community, did loads of fun demos, visited local schools, and checked local sites for dieback infestations!
