Snake Awareness Webinar for Dog Owners 🐍🐾

SPRING IS HERE!

Snake encounters are something many Australian dog owners worry about, but prevention isn’t about promising a “snake-proof” yard or relying on one training exercise.

This new on-demand Snake Awareness Webinar looks at the bigger picture, helping you better understand snake behaviour, why dogs and snakes may cross paths, and the practical steps you can take to reduce risk.

We cover:

🐍 basic snake behaviour and biology
🐍 why dogs may investigate or chase snakes
🐍 ways to make your home environment easier to supervise
🐍 management strategies for higher-risk areas
🐍 how training can support prevention
🐍common snake-awareness myths
🐍 what to do if you suspect your dog has been bitten

The webinar is self-paced through Dog Days WA Learning and includes supporting resources you can keep referring back to.

If you’d like a practical, dog-focused approach to snake awareness this season, you can now access the webinar online.

Comment "SNAKE" to get the link.

NOTE@+! If you suspect your dog has been bitten by a snake, seek veterinary care immediately.

Please go vote for my friends amazing organisation!!!

We have some VERY exciting news… Tattoos for Tails has been named a finalist in the Community Organisation category of the Fremantle Business Awards!!

We are honestly so grateful to be nominated, let alone chosen to be a finalist but now, we need YOUR help!!

Public voting is open and it’s one vote per person. We’ve put the direct voting link in our bio which will take you straight to the Community Organisation category, so you don’t have to scroll through everything else!

Winning would mean so much more than just the acknowledgement. As a not-for-profit, every Tattoos for Tails event is currently organised in our team’s spare time, with a lot (if not all) of the costs coming directly from us.

The prize package includes $3,000 worth of valuable marketing support as well as funds which would help us promote future events, reach more people and ultimately create more opportunities to raise money for the rescues and rehabilitation organisations we support!

So, if you’ve ever attended one of our events, got tattooed or dropped off supplies, donated or bought artwork, shared our posts or simply just love what we’re trying to build…

WE WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR VOTE!!!

We have BIG plans and ambitions for Tattoos for Tails and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Socialisation isn’t always about meeting people, dogs or going to exciting new places 🐾

Today, Ripley’s socialisation session was all about learning to wait calmly in the car while I trained Echo away from her.

There was plenty going on around her too — lots of loud wind, noisy teenage boys nearby and barking dogs — all while she practised just hanging out and taking everything in.

She also had some lovely people staying with her while I was away from the car, so if she did start to worry or panic, she had support there straight away. We definitely weren’t just leaving her to “figure it out” on her own.

For a puppy, watching Mum walk away with another dog while all of that is happening can be a pretty big deal! So we’re building this skill gradually and helping her learn that sometimes she stays behind, the world carries on around her, and Mum always comes back.

These little everyday life skills are such an important part of raising a confident, adaptable puppy. Especially one that will likely be hanging in the car ALOT!!

Not every socialisation session needs to be exciting — sometimes learning that nothing is happening and you’re safe is just as valuable.

Ripley’s first time wearing her harness!

Something as simple as putting on a harness can feel like a pretty big experience for a puppy, so I wanted Ripley’s very first introduction to be as positive as possible.

Instead of just popping it on, we broke it down into tiny steps:
✨ Treats for being near the harness
✨ Treats for choosing to put her head through
✨ Treats as I adjusted and buckled each section
✨ Checking she is comfortable before moving on
✨ If she did freak out I just stayed calm and gave her treats
✨ And of course treats while taking it back off too!

There was no rush and no need to “just get it done.” I wanted Ripley to learn right from the beginning that having her harness put on is safe, predictable and comes with lots of good things.

These little moments when they’re young can make such a difference later on 💜

Slow, positive introductions now = a dog who is much more comfortable with handling and equipment in the future. 🐶

🐾 Puppy exposure doesn’t mean throwing them straight into the deep end!

Today Ripley had a little traffic-watching session from the safety of the car. 🚗
We parked well back from the road, where she could hear and watch the traffic without being right amongst all the noise and movement.

The goal wasn’t to make her “get used to it” as quickly as possible — it was simply to give her a chance to observe, process and take everything in from a distance where she still felt comfortable.

Little positive experiences like this can make such a difference for puppies. Start easy, keep it short, and let them tell you when they’re ready for more. 💜

Puppy socialisation is about quality over quantity.
