Congratulations to our June graduates! (Sorry for the delay.)

All of our classes continue to be popular with people travelling from Lithgow, Blue Mountains, Penrith LGA, The Hills District, Campbelltown, Inner West. We are very lucky to have access to fantastic grounds in beautiful Glenbrook. Lots of space, shelter and parking.

Sending a big thanks to you all for continuing to work with your dogs and commitment to giving your dogs a happy and fulfilling life.

Clover is a Cavoodle. She was quite nervous and shaked a great deal. Sheโ€™s making lovely progress with her confidence and loves training and having fun adventures with her mum. This day we did some training in a new location. We also covered different ways to connect with Clover to encourage positive feelings with the environment and connecting to her mum.

Congratulations to our recent Good Manners graduates. An amazing range of breeds with different backgrounds. We saw some lovely progression with drive, reducing barking, training calmness and foundation skills.

Well done everyone and thank you for joining us. Unfortunately we couldnโ€™t take photos of all the dogs.

Look at all of the gorgeous puppies. Theyโ€™ve all had a great start in life with their families in building good habits from puppyhood.

Thereโ€™s a trap many people fall in, which is thinking the puppy is easy to manage and everything is โ€˜fineโ€™. Then the puppy is a teenager and there are no solid foundations and itโ€™s chaos, frustration and now we have a bigger dog and feel lost what to do. Our classes teach you how to work through these phases.

Classes starting Sunday 2 August by age. Have a look at our website for details.

We still have a couple of spaces left in all of our classes starting Sunday 2 August.

๐Ÿพ Not every dog wants to be touched โ€” and that's okay.

Dogs are not public property, and we should never assume that an unfamiliar (or even familiar) dog is inviting interaction just by being present.

The golden rule: don't approach unknown dogs. Give them space, stay relaxed, look slightly away, and let them come to you.

And even when a dog does approach you, sniffing, standing nearby, or coming close is NOT necessarily an invitation to pat them. Wait for clearer signals โ€” loose, relaxed body language, leaning into your leg, gentle eye contact, a nudge, a paw, or a play bow. Those are consent.

Once you have those signals, you can ask their guardian if it's okay to interact. Keep it brief, and pause to check if they want to continue.

๐Ÿšซ Avoid: patting on the head, pushing your hand in their face, hugging, or overwhelming them with too many people or too much intensity.

โš ๏ธ Signs a dog is uncomfortable: lip licking, yawning, looking away, moving away, ears pinned back, tail tucked, whale eye (whites of the eyes showing) โ€” and of course snapping or growling, which is an immediate request for more space.

This applies to children too โ€” teaching kids that unknown dogs are not to be approached is one of the most important lessons we can pass on.

I've put together an infographic breaking all of this down โ€” save it and share it! ๐Ÿ‘†

And if you want to go deeper, I've also made a video exploring whether people should even have the expectation to pat an unknown dog โ€” and why "asking first" doesn't always make it okay ๐Ÿ‘‡
