🐾💛 HAPPY VET NURSE DAY TO OUR AMAZING COREEN AVENUE NURSES! 💛🐾

Today is all about the people who keep our clinic running, our patients comfortable and our vets (mostly) sane!

From the early mornings, late finishes and emergency moments, to the cuddles, crazy patients, anaesthetic monitoring, medications, cleaning, phone calls, endless laundry and the occasional “whose patient is this?” moment… our nurses do it ALL. 🩺🐶🐱🐰

Every day you show just how much you care — not only for our patients, but for their families, our team and each other. ❤️

We know nursing isn’t always glamorous… there’s a LOT of p**p, p*e, vomit, fur and questionable smells involved — but somehow you still turn up every day and give it your absolute best.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a passionate, hardworking and slightly crazy bunch of nurses here at Greencross Coreen Avenue. 🥰🐾

So today, we celebrate YOU.

Thank you for the long days, the little victories, the difficult cases, the comforting cuddles, the laughs and everything in between.

Happy Vet Nurse Day, Coreen Avenue! 💛🐾

🕷️ TICKS ARE OUT! 🕷️

Warmer weather means it’s time to be extra vigilant. Paralysis ticks can be deadly to dogs and cats, and they can be hiding in your pet’s coat even when you can’t see them.

🐾 Keep parasite prevention up to date
🔍 Check your pet daily — especially around the ears, neck, toes and under the collar
🚨 If your pet is weak, wobbly, vomiting, coughing or having trouble breathing, seek veterinary attention immediately.

Don’t wait until you find a tick — prevention is key! 💚

Meet Frankie! 🐾

This tiny little Italian Greyhound came in for his vaccination and was quite possibly the cutest little patient we’ve had in our hands! 🥹

Frankie was so teeny, he practically fit in the palm of our hands. 🥰

Safe to say, we were all a little bit obsessed! 💚

Bird flu is making headlines, so Better Homes & Gardens asked Greencross Vets what it means for our pets.

Greencross Vets veterinarian Dr Nina shares practical advice to help pet parents understand the risks and take simple precautions.

“Bird flu can infect all mammals, so dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets can all be infected.”

From avoiding contact with sick or dead wildlife to keeping cats indoors and dogs on a leash around wildlife, a few simple steps can help reduce exposure.

🖤 A majestic visitor who never should have needed a trip to the vet.

This beautiful black swan was found with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth - a painful and completely preventable injury caused by discarded fishing gear.

Removing the hook required a general anaesthetic, along with pain relief to keep this feathered patient comfortable while we treated them. 🦢

A reminder to all anglers: please take your fishing line, hooks and tackle home with you or use a designated disposal bin. The Victorian Fisheries Authority advises that old fishing line should be placed in bins, or if there are no bins available, taken home, cut up and disposed of in general waste. Their Seal the Loop program also provides dedicated bins for unwanted fishing line, hooks, netting and rope. (VFA)

Discarded fishing gear can cause entanglement, injury and even death to wildlife. A few extra seconds to dispose of your gear properly can make a huge difference. 💔

🎣 Fish responsibly. Dispose responsibly. Protect our wildlife. A big thanks for the wildlife careers for bringing this amazing swan in and thanks to our team for helping 🫶🏼

🐾 DID YOU KNOW? 🐾

Some cats are born with extra toes! This is known as polydactyly — a genetic variation that causes a cat to have more toes than usual.

Our special patient has taken it to the next level, with extra toes on all four paws! 🐱🐾

Those extra toe beans certainly make for some very unique and adorable paws! 💕

🕷️ TOBY VS. THE TINY TERROR 🕷️

Toby came to see us after developing a cough and becoming wobbly on his legs. Mum was just a couple of days overdue with his monthly tick prevention and, knowing how serious paralysis ticks can be, was worried he may have picked one up.

Toby was admitted and we got straight to work with a thorough groom to find the culprit…

AND WE FOUND HIM! 😳🕷️

The little sucker was attached and hiding amongst Toby’s fur. Toby was given tick antiserum and, thankfully, was able to head home with strict rest and close monitoring. ❤️

Paralysis ticks are seriously dangerous and can cause:
🐾 Wobbly or weak back legs
🐾 Coughing, gagging or vomiting
🐾 Excessive drooling
🐾 A change in bark or voice
🐾 Difficulty swallowing or breathing
🐾 Progressive weakness, paralysis and potentially death

We’ve already seen several tick cases this season, so please make sure your pet’s tick prevention is kept up to date and check them regularly.

If your pet develops any of these signs, don’t wait — seek veterinary attention immediately. 🐶❤️
