1️⃣ When did you realise you wanted to be a greyhound trainer and is it everything you expected?
• I realised I wanted to train greyhounds for a living when I was 15. I had been around dogs my entire life with Kel and Jackie and to say I was bitten by the greyhound bug is an understatement, it was the best choice I ever made.
2️⃣ Who was the first winner you trained and what was that feeling like?
• My first trained winner was a dog called Salute The Judge, a blue dog who we had for a short time. I was 19 at the time and I vaguely remember it being at Sandown on a Sunday. I think everyone remembers their first winner, it was a great feeling and boosted my confidence as a young person coming through in the sport.
3️⃣ What’s been the hardest thing you’ve learnt?
• Checking a greyhound, for sure. I’ve spent years with Kel, trying to learn and take in everything I possibly can. I’m at a level now where I feel like I can handle 95% of things and make the right decision, but no one will come close to Kel’s knowledge. He’s one of one my grandfather.
4️⃣ What’s one piece of advice you’d give any aspiring trainer?
• Don’t be afraid to ask questions, reach out to bigger trainers for advice and work out your own training methods with the knowledge you accumulate. There’s no secret trick to these dogs, it’s hard work, common sense and you have to have the right people around.
5️⃣ What race would you love to win?
• I’d love to win the Melbourne Cup. To win that as a family would be the cherry on top for all of us.
