🦠 CANINE PARVOVIRUS — KNOW THE SIGNS! 🐶
Canine parvovirus (parvo) is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening virus, especially in puppies and unvaccinated adult dogs.
As the weather warms up, we tend to see more cases of canine parvovirus. But why?
Warmer weather also means more dogs are out and about — at parks, boarding facilities and other places where they can come into contact with infected dogs or contaminated areas.
Spring and summer also bring lots of puppies out exploring and socialising.
⚠️ Signs to watch for include:
• Vomiting
• Severe or bloody diarrhoea
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy and weakness
• Dehydration
• Abdominal pain
🧼 How does it spread?
Parvovirus can be spread through infected faeces and contaminated environments, objects, shoes and hands. The virus can survive in the environment for a long time, making prevention especially important.
💉 Vaccination is the best protection!
Keeping your dog’s vaccinations up to date significantly reduces the risk of parvovirus. Puppies are particularly vulnerable until they have completed their vaccination course.
