๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ‘‚ OLLIE'S EAR CLEAN! ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿถ

Meet handsome Ollie, a lovely Border Collie who recently visited Kantenna Park Veterinary Clinic to have his ears cleaned! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Keeping an eye on your pet's ears is an important part of their overall health and comfort. Some dogs naturally produce more wax than others, while things like moisture, allergies, ear shape and underlying ear conditions can contribute to dirty or irritated ears.

Regular ear checks and cleaning when appropriate for your pet can help remove excess wax and debris, keep the ear canal clean and allow you to notice potential problems before they become more uncomfortable. ๐Ÿ‘‚โœจ

Some signs that your pet's ears may need veterinary attention include:

๐Ÿพ Excessive scratching around the ears
๐Ÿพ Frequent head shaking
๐Ÿพ Redness or swelling
๐Ÿพ A strong or unusual smell
๐Ÿพ Excessive wax or discharge
๐Ÿพ Pain or sensitivity when their ears are touched

It's important to remember that not every pet needs frequent ear cleaning, and over-cleaning can sometimes cause irritation. If your pet's ears are suddenly dirty, sore, smelly or producing discharge, it's best to have them checked rather than repeatedly cleaning them at home, as an ear infection or another underlying problem may need treatment.

Ollie was a wonderful patient while we gave his ears some much-needed attention, and we're sure he's feeling much fresher and more comfortable now! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿถ

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’™ STILL SEARCHING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ

This gorgeous little boy is still patiently waiting for the perfect family to find him and call him their own. โค๏ธ๐Ÿก

He can be a little shy when first meeting new people, but once he feels comfortable, his beautiful personality quickly begins to shine through. Underneath that initial shyness is the sweetest little love bug who absolutely adores kisses, cuddles and simply being close to his people. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿพ

He has such a gentle and loving nature with so much affection to give. Now, all he needs is a wonderful family who can give him the love, care and companionship he deserves.

Finding the right home is incredibly important, so we're hoping his perfect people might be out there waiting to see him. ๐Ÿ’•

Even if you're not currently looking to welcome another furry family member, sharing his photo may help it reach the person who is. Sometimes, one simple share is all it takes to help a beautiful animal find their forever home. ๐Ÿกโค๏ธ

If you're interested in finding out more about this gorgeous boy, please don't hesitate to contact us for further information.

Or the breeder for direct contact. ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’™ MEET ACE! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ

Meet handsome Ace, a beautiful Border Collie who recently visited Kantenna Park Veterinary Clinic for his desexing procedure! ๐Ÿพ

Ace was an absolute sweetheart during his time with us and quickly won over our nurses. He was more than happy to soak up all the cuddles and attention he could get while recoveringโ€”we certainly weren't complaining! ๐Ÿฅฐโค๏ธ

โœ‚๏ธ WHY DESEX YOUR PET?

Desexing can provide a number of health and behavioural benefits for our furry friends. For male dogs like Ace, desexing can:

๐Ÿพ Prevent unwanted litters
๐Ÿพ Eliminate the risk of testicular cancer
๐Ÿพ Reduce the risk of some prostate problems
๐Ÿพ Can help reduce hormone-driven roaming and searching for females
๐Ÿพ Reduce certain hormone-related behaviours in some dogs

Preventing accidental litters is also an important part of responsible pet ownership. Even the most carefully supervised pets can sometimes find a way to surprise us! ๐Ÿ˜…

The ideal age to desex isn't necessarily the same for every dog. Breed, size, age, health and lifestyle can all play a part in deciding when the right time may be, so it's always worth having a chat with your veterinarian about what's best for your individual pet. ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ•

Ace recovered beautifully from his procedure and, of course, received plenty more cuddles from our nurses before heading home! ๐Ÿ’™

โค๏ธ Whether you're considering desexing, have questions about your pet's health or something just doesn't seem quite right, the Kantenna Park Vet Team is always here to help.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’‰ SHELBY'S LITTER CAME TO VISIT! ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿถ

We recently had a very special appointment at Kantenna Park Veterinary Clinic when Shelby's gorgeous litter of 8-week-old Boxer puppies came in for their vaccinations and microchips! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

There were plenty of wriggly Boxer babies, cuddles and kisses to go around while we made sure everyone was ready for the next chapter of their lives. ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿ’‰ WHY ARE VACCINATIONS IMPORTANT?

Puppy vaccinations help protect against several serious and potentially life-threatening infectious diseases, including parvovirus, distemper and infectious canine hepatitis. Puppies require a course of vaccinations as their immune systems develop, so it's important to keep them up to date with the schedule recommended by your veterinarian.

๐Ÿ”Ž WHY MICROCHIP?

A microchip provides your puppy with a permanent form of identification. If they ever become lost and are taken to a vet, shelter or authorised facility, their microchip can be scanned to help reunite them with their family. Just remember to keep your contact details up to date!

๐Ÿงฌ We also had Dr Alex and our lovely nurse Felix helping with the puppies and collecting DNA swabs from inside their mouths for their owners. These samples are being used to check their genetic status for Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) and Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC), with ARVC testing and our understanding of the condition continuing to develop through ongoing research.

๐Ÿก The exciting news is that almost all of these little ones already have their new families waiting for them!

There is just one little white boy wearing a blue collar, currently nicknamed โ€œBluey,โ€ who is still waiting for his new home. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ

It was an absolute pleasure having Shelby's babies visit us, and we can't wait to see how they grow!

โค๏ธ Whether you've welcomed home a new puppy, need help with vaccinations and microchipping, or have questions about your pet's health, the Kantenna Park Vet Team is always here to help.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฉน CALI'S MYSTERY WOUND! ๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿถ

Meet lovely Cali, a gorgeous Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogโ€”just without the stumpy tail! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Cali recently came into Kantenna Park Veterinary Clinic after her owners noticed something unusualโ€”a mysterious hole on the side of her face that hadn't been there before. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Her owners did exactly the right thing and brought her straight in to have it checked by one of our vets rather than waiting to see if it would heal on its own.

After examining the wound, our vet recommended that Cali have the area thoroughly cleaned and stitched to help it close and heal properly while reducing the risk of further complications. ๐Ÿฉนโœจ

Wounds aren't always as simple as they look from the outside. A small hole or puncture can sometimes be deeper underneath the skin, and dirt, bacteria or other material may have entered the wound.

๐Ÿพ If you suddenly notice a suspicious hole, puncture or cut on your pet that wasn't there before, it's always worth getting it checked!

Keep an eye out for other changes around the area such as swelling, redness, discharge, bleeding, heat, pain or your pet continually licking or scratching at it.

Thankfully, Cali's owners noticed her wound and acted quickly, allowing us to get it cleaned up and on the road to healing. โค๏ธ

The Kantenna Park Vet Team is always here to help, whether you've discovered a mystery wound or simply noticed something about your pet that doesn't seem quite right. It's always better to ask!

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฆด DAISY'S HIP & ELBOW SCORING! ๐Ÿฆด๐Ÿถ

Meet beautiful Daisy, a 1-year-and-9-month-old Golden Retriever who recently visited Kantenna Park Veterinary Clinic to have her hips and elbows X-rayed for scoring. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿพ

Daisy's owners aren't planning to breed from herโ€”they simply wanted to know her results and gain a better understanding of her joint health for the future. We love seeing owners being proactive about their pet's wellbeing! ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿฆด WHAT IS HIP & ELBOW SCORING?

Hip and elbow scoring involves taking specially positioned X-rays that can be submitted for assessment. These images allow the joints to be evaluated for abnormalities and changes associated with conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia.

The X-rays can help assess:
๐Ÿพ How well the hip joints fit together
๐Ÿพ The shape and positioning of the joints
๐Ÿพ Signs of abnormal joint development
๐Ÿพ Arthritic or degenerative changes
๐Ÿพ Abnormalities within the elbows

If you're planning to breed your dog, hip and elbow scoring can be an important part of responsible health testing, particularly in breeds where joint conditions are known concerns. The results provide valuable information when making breeding decisions and can help breeders work towards producing healthier future generations. ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ

However, your dog doesn't need to be part of a breeding program to benefit from having their joints assessed!

Just like Daisy's family, you may simply want more information about your dog's joint health. Identifying potential problems can help you and your veterinarian make informed decisions about their exercise, weight, lifestyle and future joint care.

If you're considering breeding or simply want to learn more about your dog's hips and elbows, have a chat with our veterinary team to see whether screening may be suitable.

โค๏ธ The Kantenna Park Vet Team is always here to help keep your furry family members happy, healthy and moving comfortably!

๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿถ ALBIE'S TRIP TO THE DENTIST! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฆท

Meet handsome Albie, an 11-month-old Border Collie who recently visited Kantenna Park Veterinary Clinic to have one of his stubborn baby teeth removed! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Just like us, puppies have a set of baby teeth (deciduous teeth) that are eventually replaced by their adult teeth. Most puppies should have lost their baby teeth and have their adult teeth coming through by around 6 months of age.

Sometimes, however, a baby tooth decides it doesn't want to leave! ๐Ÿซฃ These are known as retained deciduous teeth, and they can remain in place even after the adult tooth has erupted.

This was the case for Albie, so our veterinary team removed the retained baby tooth to help keep his mouth healthy and comfortable. ๐Ÿฆทโœจ

Leaving retained baby teeth in place can sometimes cause problems, including:
๐Ÿพ Overcrowding or abnormal positioning of the adult teeth
๐Ÿพ Food, plaque and tartar becoming trapped between teeth
๐Ÿพ Increased risk of gum and dental disease
๐Ÿพ Discomfort or damage to surrounding teeth and tissues

Thankfully, Albie's troublesome little tooth is now gone, and he can continue showing off his adult smile! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿถ

If your puppy is older than 6 months and you notice they still have a baby tooth, we recommend having their mouth checked by a veterinarian. We can assess the tooth and discuss whether removal or another treatment option is appropriate.

โค๏ธ The Kantenna Park Vet Team is always here to help keep your furry friends happy and healthyโ€”from their teeth to their tails!

๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ RAINBOW BRIDGE REMEMBRANCE DAY ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒˆ

Today, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we take a moment to remember and honour all of the beautiful pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge but will remain forever in our hearts, today and always. โค๏ธ

Losing a pet is never easy. They aren't simply animals who share our homesโ€”they become part of our families, our routines and some of our most treasured memories. Whether they were with us for a few short years or a lifetime, the love they gave us leaves paw prints that never truly disappear. ๐Ÿพ

Today isn't only about the sadness of losing them. It's also about remembering all of the wonderful moments we were lucky enough to shareโ€”the wagging tails when we came home, the purrs and cuddles, the mischief, the adventures and all those little things that made them uniquely ours. ๐ŸŒˆโœจ

๐Ÿ“ธ We would love for you to share a photo of a pet you've lost in the comments below, along with their name or a favourite memory if you'd like.

We'd love to see all of the beautiful fur friends who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, so we can know who our own lost furry friends are up there enjoying their time with. โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Perhaps they're all running together, chasing balls, finding the best sunny spots to sleep and enjoying unlimited treats while they wait for us. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ

To every family remembering a special pet today, we're thinking of you. No matter how much time passes, they'll always hold a special place in our hearts.

โค๏ธ Forever loved. Forever remembered. Never forgotten. โค๏ธ

If you ever have any concerns about your pet's health, quality of life or simply need some support, the Kantenna Park Vet Team is always here to help.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’™ DIOR'S SURPRISE DELIVERY! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ

Meet gorgeous Dior, a 2-year-old French Bulldog who recently came into Kantenna Park Veterinary Clinic for a C-section after having a bit of an unexpected adventure! ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿพ

Dior managed to accidentally have a little too much fun with a blue American Staffordshire Terrier, resulting in a surprise pregnancy that her owners definitely weren't expecting! ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

After discovering Dior was pregnant, her owners made the decision to continue with the pregnancy and give her little babies the best chance possible. When delivery day arrived, Dior came into our care for a Caesarean section, where our team was ready to safely welcome her surprise arrivals.

And what a beautiful surprise they were! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿพ Dior welcomed SEVEN extremely healthy puppies, with all seven appearing to have gorgeous blue-fawn colouring. Mum and her little family did wonderfully, and we're so happy we were able to be part of bringing these unexpected little bundles into the world. ๐Ÿ’™

While Dior's story had a happy ending, it's also an important reminder of just how quickly an accidental mating can happen!

If you're not planning on breeding your pet, desexing is the most reliable way to prevent accidental and unwanted litters. It also provides a number of health and behavioural benefits depending on your pet's age, breed and individual circumstances.

And if your furry friend has had their own little romantic adventure and you're now facing a possible pregnancy scare, don't panic! ๐Ÿ˜… Our veterinary team can discuss your options, pregnancy diagnosis and the best next steps for your pet.

๐Ÿถ๐ŸŽ“ PUPPY PRESCHOOL โ€“ WEEK 5! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿพ

We can't believe we've already reached Week 5 of Puppy Preschool! This week, our puppies and their owners spent time reviewing their recall training and putting everything they've learnt into practice. โค๏ธ

One of the biggest things to remember is that every puppy learns differently. Some pick up new skills quickly, while others need more time, repetition and encouragementโ€”and that's completely okay! ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐ŸคŽ Bear & Lumi ๐ŸคŽ

Bear, our Border Collie, and Lumi, our Kelpie, were incredibly well behaved during recall training! They did a fantastic job listening and responding to their owners.

It was wonderful seeing the connection they already have with their owners. A strong bond, consistency and positive reinforcement can make such a difference when training. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ’• Minnie & Cherri ๐Ÿ’•

Minnie and Cherri also did really well, although there were definitely a few distractions along the way! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Remember, younger puppies are naturally easier to distract. The world is still new and exciting! Another puppy, an interesting smell or someone walking past can suddenly become much more interesting than listening.

They're puppiesโ€”everything is a game! ๐Ÿถ With patience and practice, their focus will continue improving as they grow.

๐ŸŽ“ WHAT'S NEXT?

We've decided to continue Puppy Preschool. So if youโ€™re interested in joining contact us and book your puppies in!

๐Ÿ“ž P: (07) 3297 1005
๐Ÿ“ง E: [email protected]

A huge well done to Bear, Lumi, Minnie and Cherri, and of course their owners! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿถ

Rememberโ€”every puppy progresses at their own pace. Patience, consistency and plenty of positive reinforcement go a long way! ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ“โค๏ธ
