🐾 A busy day in Batchelor! 🐾

Our team of two vets and two vet nurses had a busy day in Batchelor, completing 16 desexing procedures and seeing several animals for consultations. 🐢🐱

A big thank you to Coomalie Community Government Council for organising our community visit and helping us provide veterinary care to local pets.

We wish all the dogs and cats a speedy recovery and lots of happy, healthy days ahead!

🐾 September Puppy Preschool graduates! πŸΎπŸŽ“

What a lovely group of puppies we had in our September Puppy Preschool! πŸ’• They learned lots of important skills, built their confidence and, of course, made some new friends along the way. 🐢🐢

It was wonderful watching them grow and learn together over the four weeks. We hope they continue to be happy, confident and well-socialised puppies! πŸ₯°

A big thank you to all their owners for helping them get the best start in life. ❀️

πŸ• Leptospirosis – protect your dog and yourself

Two hunters have recently been diagnosed with leptospirosis, a disease that can spread from animals to people.

Dogs can become infected through contaminated water, soil or wildlife and can pass the bacteria to people.

Vaccination is an important way to protect your dog. If your dog is due for a leptospirosis booster or didn't have one yet, book an appointment for the vaccination.

🐾 Especially important for hunting, working or active dogs that spend time around mud, wildlife and water.

🐾 More puppies via caesarean! πŸΎπŸ’•
We still needed to share another busy delivery for our team, with these beautiful puppies needing a little extra help to make their way into the world.
A caesarean is a very intensive procedure, and once the puppies are delivered, the work is far from over. At Ark, a caesarean requires one veterinarian and two veterinary nurses working together to give both mum and her puppies the best possible chance.
This time, nurse Nicky was on hand to help care for the newborn puppies, making sure they were warm, breathing well and getting the attention they needed. πŸ₯°πŸΆ
There is always plenty happening behind the scenes during a caesarean, and it really is a team effort!
Welcome to the world, little ones! ❀️

Exotic pets are part of what we do! πŸ’š
We are proud to be the main providers of veterinary care for exotic animals in the Darwin region, with experience caring for a wide range of birds, reptiles and other unusual pets.
Our nurse Perri recently gave this beautiful Black Cockatoo a wing clip. πŸ–€πŸ’›
Wing clipping is one of the routine services we provide for pet birds when appropriate. It needs to be done carefully and correctly to avoid injury and ensure the bird can still move safely.
If you have an exotic pet and need advice about its health or care, our experienced team is here to help.

❀️ Meet Charlie!

This beautiful galah came to Ark Animal Hospital with heavy metal poisoning. Thankfully, with prompt treatment and lots of care, Charlie is now recovering. πŸ©ΊπŸ’š

Birds love to chew, so it’s important to regularly check their toys, cages and accessories. Make sure they are made from bird-safe materials and replace anything damaged, rusty or with exposed metal.
