Happy Father’s Day to all the Cat Dads.

Especially the ones who claim they ā€œdidn’t want a catā€ and are now somehow the preferred parent. šŸ™„

And don’t forget the treats for your cat children. It is Father’s Day, but we all know who still expects (desurrves) to be spoiled. šŸ˜‚

Happy Father’s Day from Raw Meow. 🐾

Meet Wombat.

Rescued from a hoarder's house along with 16 other cats, chronic diarrhoea, and so little interest in food his foster mum wasn't sure he'd ever really eat properly. Here's what happened next, in her own words.

"When Wombat came to me as a foster he was suffering with terrible diarrhoea and wasn't particularly interested in eating. It's safe to say he's had a rough, traumatic start to life.

My previous cats had all been raw fed with Raw Meow Mix and thrived, so I was determined to get him onto an appropriate, nourishing diet and to heal his insides.

On day 4 of introducing Raw Meow Mix meals, to my surprise, he decided it was better than anything else on offer. From that day forward he only consumed raw meat with Raw Meow Mix, and is so keen for food he now lets me know when he's hungry.

His stool remains firm with no reoccurrence of runny stool. I'm so grateful for the amazing products on the RMM website and the support provided by Laura."

Honest question for the raw feeding community:

What did your vet say when you told them?

Because the responses range from "that's great, here's some guidance" all the way to "absolutely not, it'll kill them" and everything in between.

Some vets are genuinely supportive. Some have never had raw feeding come up in their training at all. Some are repeating information that's 20 years old.

We're not here to vet-bash. A good vet is invaluable. But we are curious about your experience.

Drop your story in the comments. Supportive vet? Sceptical? Did it change anything about how you feed?

Unpopular opinion incoming.. and yes, I've thought carefully about this.

Don't take nutritional advice from your vet.

I say this with respect for the profession. Vets are skilled clinicians. They do incredible work. But nutrition is not an area most of them are trained in, and the meal plans I've seen come out of vet clinics over the years have genuinely shocked me.

High carb diets for one of the most obligate carnivores on the planet. Dry food for a species that evolved to get its moisture from prey. Homemade recipes that look balanced on paper but would leave a cat deficient in ways that show up slowly, quietly, over months and years.

Most vets receive very little formal nutrition education. What they do get is often shaped by the major pet food brands.. the same ones with bags in the waiting room. That's not a criticism of individual vets, it's just how the curriculum works. It means that when it comes to diet, your vet may not be the most qualified person in the room.

And while I'm on the topic.. DIY raw isn't the answer either. Homemade cat food needs to be properly formulated by a qualified nutritionist. A real one. Not someone who completed an online course, and not someone using plant-based ingredients like kale, chia seeds, or h**p to hit nutritional targets.

Cats cannot utilise plant-based nutrients the way humans can. Bioavailability is everything, and for cats that means animal-sourced nutrition. Good intentions with the wrong ingredients can still leave your cat falling short.

For surgery, diagnostics, illness.. your vet is exactly who you need.

But for diet, you're already in the right place. That's what we do here at Raw Meow.

Your cat's health is worth that extra step.

What's the worst thing about my job?

I love your cats.
And I mean actually love them.

I worry about them. I think about them after you message me, wonder how they're going, wait for updates, get way too invested in their little lives.

And when something happens to them.. when one of them dies.. I grieve. Sometimes I cry over cats I've never even met.

I know that's probably not very sensible. I know I should be able to keep a bit more distance, not carry everyone's worry home with me. But I can't.

Once you've told me about your cat.. once I know their name, their little quirks, what they'll eat and what they won't, what they've been through.. I just care.

Deeply. Probably too much. It's one of the hardest parts of this job, because there are so many of you, and over the years so many cats have worked their way into my heart.

So when you message me with bad news, please know I'm not just replying because it's my job. I'm sad with you.

And then another cat comes along and I do it all over again. Every single time.

The worst thing about my job is loving all your cats. The best thing about my job is exactly the same thing.

Your vet might not recommend raw feeding.

Your vet also probably got less than 1 week of nutrition training in a course partly funded by Hills and Royal Canin.

Do your own research. We'll be here when you're ready.
